My Appleseed gift for my nephew's 12th bday

I have mentioned in other threads that I am taking my nephew to Appleseed as part of his 12th birthday gift. My nephew has been dying to go shooting and loves history. His birthday is July 1st and I have started to pull together everything he will need. It started with a plastic ammo can for his supplies.

So far I have the following to go in the can.
    • Howard Leight Impact Sport hearing protection
    • Ducks Unlimited shooting glasses with interchangeable lenses
    • 500 rounds of CCI Mini Mags
    • A pamphlet about Appleseed I found on the Appleseed forums with a checklist of everything he will need inside of that.

    Still to come from Appleseed
    • Appleseed playing cards
    • Some decals, RWVA oval, Betsy Ross flag and Don't Tread On Me flag
    • Red Coat targets to show him what he will be shooting and to practice
    • Sling and swivels

I also ordered a nice new 10/22 for him to use that day that I got from Bruce at Hunters Essentials. It is the 2nd Collector Series model.

The gun is basically ready for Appleseed out of the box, sling studs, and what is essentially the Mini-14 peep sight system already installed with a nice integrated rail. It also has the new synthetic stock that is used on the Ruger American and the LOP and cheek rest height can be adjusted just by swapping out a new piece of the stock, the pieces are only about $20. In the box is a nice steel Ruger sign, a $25 gift certificate for the shopruger.com store and a 20% off coupon for the store, as well as a reprint of an old Ruger ad for the 10/22. I will put up a post another day with photos of the gun and some of the mods I am going to make like the auto bolt release mod, and polishing of some of the internals.

Is there anything I am missing for him? I have moving blankets, chairs and a pop up tent.

You sir, are going to be THE BEST UNCLE EVER!

Congrats on taking care of the young munchkin, and bringing another shooter into the community.

Have you got him covered in terms of a nice carrying case, four ten round mags and some cleaning equipment?

Also, have you thought about a NRA membership for him? Or, a subscription to a gun mag?

    Kudos to you.

PM me your address and I'll send you a FREE Ticket to any Appleseed Event.
There's one coming up at LIPSA in September. I'll make certain he gets on the line if he can make that one.

Tried to PM you but wasn't able to.

I found a pair of the tri-mag holders really useful and the clear plastic mags

How many mags do you have? You need at least two. 4 mags is best. Also I've found it helpful to label 2 mags with the number 10. One mag with the number 8 and one mag with the number 2. Also a cleaning kit and some tools. Lots of water. Hat. Sunscreen. Bug and tic repellent.

Hey Skipper, I heard you were looking to adopt another nephew. What luck! I'm available!

That's awesome. Hope he has many many many happy years with his .22 and upgrades as he gets older. Great gifts!

You both are going to have a fantastic time. You will witness some of the best Instructors and Instructors In Training Appleseed has ever had the pleasure of offering. Its truly poetry in motion, a thing of beauty to watch.

If my orange IIT hat can make a recommendation, add a scope. Any decent scope but this is my favorite:

Nikon P-Rimfire 2-7x32 Riflescope, Matte, NikoPlex Reticle

Brand Name binoculars, telescopes, spotting scopes, microscopes, sunglasses, goggles, prescription glasses, 35mm and digital cameras, rifles scopes, night vision, lasers, and more, low prices, Free Shipping, great service!

It can be done with iron sights but this will make it more enjoyable.

I have his whole gift together now. I added the stickers, 2 sets, one I put on the ammo can and a set for him to use. The stickers are the Betsy Ross Flag, Don't Tread on Me flag, and Appleseed logo. I also included Appleseed playing cards, 3 tshirts, targets, the instructions for the 10/22 along with the 3 pages from a Mini 14 manual on sight picture and adjustment for the sights on the 10/22 he will be using, a chamber flag, and a bunch of Appleseed reading materials. Thank you VietVet for help with some of this. I also received his sling and sling swivels.

If you want a BSA Sweet .22 scope with rings to have in hand for the event let me know.
I have one sitting around. Happy to let him borrow it.
