    APPLESEED PREPARATION @ LIPSA - September, 2016

    SHOOTERS...YOUR PREPARATION PERIOD BEGINS NOW!!

Our Appleseed Shoot at LIPSA, September 10 & 11, 2016 is about one month away.
It's time we started talking about it and have anyone with questions ask them and we'll get them answered.
Also we're always open to suggestions from our Shooters.

This will be an ongoing thread because I know I won't cover (Remember) everything right now.
So......I'll begin with what I can and we'll be adding as needed.

Please feel free to add anything you may think of that I left out and also ask any question you may have about anything you're not sure of.
An Appleseed Event is a Team Event so we'll do this together.

Keep in mind this is our Patriots Day Shoot.
This is a very special Appleseed Event.
We'll be celebrating with the "Memorial Volley" to pay our Respect to those who gave all on September 11, 2001.
Also I'm planning on some very special "Fun Shoots" to add to our celebration.

For those who make Rifleman you'll receive not only the "Patch" but will also be awarded our "Patriots Day Patch" .

    WHAT TO BRING:

Rifle of choice. Scopes or irons. Rim Fire or Center Fire. Your choice.
Magazines. 4 would be perfect but 2 are necessary
Ammo...I'll estimate about 700 rounds for the weekend but it could go a little higher/lower.
Sling. It's important to have a sling for your Rifle.
    Eye & Ear Protection.
    A Mat
to lay on. Can be just a piece of old carpet. Doesn't have to be fancy.
Cleaning Kit. Never hurts to carry one.
Sight Adjustment Tool for your rifle helps, we share at an Appleseed so someone may have it.
Chair. Not necessary but will help.
Small table. Also Not necessary but will help you keep your equipment out of the sand.
A Pop Up Canopy if you have one. Again not necessary
A LIGHT lunch. Don't want to fill up and get lazy.
FLUIDS......Very important to stay hydrated. (Start hydrating the day before)
Sun Screen is advised. Lets hope we need it.
Clothing for ANY weather condition. Rain Gear. It's a RAIN OR SHINE EVENT.
Elbow Pads IF you prefer to use them. They usually do help but not necessary.
Staple Gun & Staples..but we can share.

Everyone will need to sign a "Liability Wavier".
If you can print one out and have it filled out upon arrival it will save some time. If not you can fill it out there.
Here's a link to the form..................

    https://appleseedinf...elease form.pdf

The Range fee is $20.00 per day, per shooter. Please have exact change and if you are attending both days please pay for both days on Saturday. This just makes this process much easier and will save us time so we can get going first thing Sunday morning.

You can also read through this link that give info on "How to Prepare for an Event"...........

    https://appleseedinf...as_prepare.html

Arrival time at the Range will be 8:00AM

When you arrive at our area you'll be directed where to park. Please leave EVERYTHING in your vehicles and go to the "Admin Table", hand in your Release Forms and we'll need to collect the Range fee which is $20.00 per day, per shooter.
Please have the exact amount. You can pay for both days or just the first. We'll collect the second days fee on Sunday.
HOWEVER, it would make things a lot easier if you would pay for the 2 days on Saturday. Less paper work for us.

Once you're signed in and issued some material go back to your vehicles and bring your gear to the "Equipment Line".

DO NOT REMOVE ANY FIREARMS!.................. ALL FIREARMS STAY IN YOUR VEHICLES!

Leave them in your vehicles until after the "Safety Briefing".
We'll let you know when to retrieve them.
Please DO NOT carry any Pistols on your person. NO pistols are allowed (for safety reasons) on the "Firing Line".

Instructors will be there to guide everyone through this process but IMO giving you a heads up on how we're going to run this will help everything run a little smoother.
We'll work together as a team and make the most of what's planned to be a great weekend.

For those not familiar with the location of the Range here's the directions.............

    Directions:
From the Long Island Expwy: to Exit 70, go south to Sunrise Hwy. Take the Hwy east to Exit 63 south, go south to the first traffic light, turn left into Gabreski Airport( Suffolk County Airport) go forward as far as you can and make a left turn on to Perimeter Road. Follow this road around until you reach the Pine Barrens Range. Ignore the sign about authorized access, you are authorized.

From Sunrise Hwy: Go east to Exit 63 south. At first traffic light make left into Gabreski Airport (Suffolk County Airport), make another left at Perimeter Road and follow the road to the Pine Barrens Range. Ignore the sign about authorized access, you are authorized.

Important: If you go over the railroad tracks, you have gone to far, turn around.

    ANY QUESTIONS?

    PLEASE JUST ASK.

We're 3 weeks away from our Event.

Hopefully those who were able to get tickets are well into their "Prep Period" because it will be here before we know it. Time sure has a way of flying in today's world.
Check the list above and start getting your gear in order if you haven't already started.
Start loosing up those couch potato bodies.

Might be a good idea to take out the rifle you're going to use and give it a once over. I know if I haven't handled a certain Rifle in awhile I'll need to review the operation and check for loose parts.

Now lets really hope we get some cooler weather. Lately it's been pretty nasty so remember to hydrate. You should start hydrating a few days before the Shoot.
Don't mean to make this sound like we're going to be running a marathon but being prepared is important. Those who have attended an Appleseed Event before know exactly what I'm saying.

We have 27 Shooters Registered and this looks to be the largest Appleseed Shoot we held so far at LIPSA.

Looking forward to seeing all on the line.

SHOOTERS.........Your Preparation Period is nearing an end!

I got a couple of impressive .22 cartridge burns on my lower arms at the last Appleseed, due to not wearing long sleeves. I won't make that mistake again.

Pro tips for any first-timers..... wear a light shirt / long sleeves.
Bring a hat and a hand towel of some kind to wipe things down.
Water, lots of it. Don't skimp.
Folding chair I consider a necessity.

Just put the sling studs on my 10/22 take down this morning and was going to mount the scopes for our rifles but the rings that I have are not the right ones so that will have to wait until next week.

If anyone needs a loaner rifle, let me know. Have a 10/22 TD and a Marlin 795 I can lend out. Please make arrangements with me prior as I'll only be there on Sunday

Simmons 22Mag 3-9x32. I got them on Amazon, they were about $40 each, the rings were another $15 each I think.

I wish I got taller rings for the black rifle because I would prefer to slide the scope forward more but the scope will hit the built in sight on the rail unless I have taller rings. You can see that in the picture a little, the magnification knob and the bell end are too big to fit over the sight.

That is the plan. I have not spoken to him recently, I will talk to him this weekend.

I suggest that you all make certain that your scopes and rings are secured with blue loctite. You'll be shooting over 500 rounds and things start to loosen up. I experienced this in my first Appleseed. Also if you're going to sight in before Appleseed use the same ammo you're going to use the day of the event. I recommend CCI Mini Mags. See you all on the line. I'll be the other handsome bald guy with an orange IIT hat. LOL

Nod re the "same ammo" recommendation.

Related: I made the mistake of switching from CCI to federal on the second day of the last Appleseed Event (Fishkill), I was awful after the change. Shame on me.

Sighting in before the Appleseed is a great idea.
Please just keep in mind that we'll be shooting a distance of 25M (82 feet) so if you sight in at 50 to 100 Yds your POI may differ.
Also one of the first things we'll do at this Shoot is get you zeroed in. That's step one in the Shooting aspect of an Appleseed Event (after the Red Coat Target).
So if you don't get a chance to zero in before we'll walk you through this and more before we begin to run the AQT's.

                              27 SHOOTERS SIGNED UP!

Anyone want to take a guess at how many will become Rifleman?
