I've been Cerakoting for the past 7 years or so. Hopefully this is helpful:
NIC, the company that makes Cerakote, has a few different products; heat cure, air dry and microslick (they also have a few other coatings but lets keep it simple)
For firearms, most of us are using the heat cure. So this will focus on that product.
1. dissemble the parts you'll be coating
2. degrease- you can use spray degreasers or soak in acetone
3. surface prep- you need to sand blast with aluminum oxide. you can buy a cheap cabinet or borrow a good one- hint- car guys have them
4. degrease
5. spray cerkote- those cheap HVLP touch up guns at amazon work
6. cure- you can make an oven. Old locker or cheap gunsafe with an oven element works for most
