Sammy Davis Jr.’s pistol is turned in at LA gun buyback program

LOS ANGELES — A vintage pistol that was once owned by legendary performer Sammy Davis Jr. was among 791 guns that the Los Angeles Police Department collected during a weekend gun buyback program, officials said.

The Brat Pack member's 1911 .45-caliber pistol was one of the weapons turned in for Ralphs grocery store gift cards during the events held in Mission Hills and South Los Angeles.

No details were available about who donated the gun or its origins because the program is anonymous. Typically such 1911 pistols cost more than $350.

The nearly 800 guns included 364 handguns, 144 shotguns, 237 rifles, 42 assault-style weapons and four weapons that did not fit any specific category.

Since its inception in 2009, the gun buyback program has collected more 15,000 weapons.

Wonder how many of the evil weapons "collected" were priceless. I gather around 1,000. Thugs robbing homes and then turning the firearms in to police. So they're getting paid to rob people basically. Well done...

How do they even Know This? How can they verify that the pistol belonged to Sammy Davis Jr? I call Bullshit on the story as Although California is basically a communist state, They do not require a pistol License, Nor do they require registration of a pistol. Even with a issued Full Carry, Your pistol is not listed on your license and the serial # is not recorded anywhere. Up until 1999, you could walk into a gun shop, pass your nics check and walk out with the pistol that day. Open carry (but unloaded) was permitted as well.
