Iron & Fire - New TV show tonight 4/11/16

Iron & Fire on History tonight 4/11/16 at 10pm.

The show is about a blacksmith and gunsmith in the Ozarks who makes knives and firearms.

S1 E1 - The Rifle That Made America
In the heart of the Ozarks, traditional knife and gunsmith Daniel Casey breathes new life into a 200-year old classic as he crafts a custom "Poor Boy" rifle. This was the weapon of choice for the average man of the 1800s who needed to put food on the table and protect his home and family. But the rifle's of no use against the tiny invaders who've moved into Daniel's dad's home, so he brings in the big guns to remove a colony of honeybees to a hive of their own. Then at a family dinner, the buzz is all about Daniel's news of a new addition to the Casey clan.

    Next Monday's episode is:
    S1 E2 - The Bowie Knife
As ironsmith Daniel Casey begins to craft a replica of the very first Bowie knife ever made, he has a big pair of boots to fill. After all, Arkansas is where that American original was first forged in the early 19th century - and it's become a classic. So Daniel salvages steel and wood from days gone by to hammer out his own version of the 200-year old antique. He takes time out from the painstaking task to repair a Civil War-era rifle -- and blow off some steam with friends shooting targets with black powder flintlocks.

I just hope they don't infuse too much made for TV drama.

That line doesn't make me feel like it will be drama free.

I've watched both episodes on demand. It's fine, no real drama really. He makes really accurate black powder rifles!

I have watched the first two as well. Hitting a Kiwi at 50 yds was it? pretty cool. I was hoping he was going to hammer his own barrel, then I would have been really impressed.

Yeah I thought he was making his own barrel as well. Looks like he just forged about 30 parts for it and had the barrel made somewhere else.

I've seen the first 2-3 shows, I think I preferred the dagger(?) episode. I recommend the show wholeheartedly.

I'm really liking the main guy, his approache to family and life, his laid back attitude, and more importantly - his skill.

I did find myself thinking, hmm, how many dollars would I need to part with to have a custom dagger like like that as a nice ornament in my home.

                  Time for an update:
I'm at episode 10, it's been a good show so far, still worth watching.
It's been a decent mix of different crafting projects... Knives, spears, lamps, long guns, pistols, gun restoration. Stock carving, etc.
Episode 8(?) he built a black power bear pistol, hand engraved the metal, carved the stock all by hand, beautiful. He worked with a couple of his mentors on that.

I watched episode 8 last night, I fell asleep as soon as I started episode 9. I like it so far, I just wish they showed more of the craftsmanship work.

Yeah, less of the 'less shoot some <insert junk>" near the end of every ep, instead more of the actual craft. Still, not bad.
