    School me on night sights

I'm in need of some night sights to replace some really dull Trijicons on my G27. I'm reading about them on a few sights, and they all seem to say the same thing. So based on the experience of the shooters here, what are your opinions?

What actually works well as night sights (tritium/fiber/whatever)? How long do they last? Are any of them really bright enough to see well enough for fast target acquisition in the dark? Do they need to be charged by light like the glow in the dark markings on my watch?

Fiber Optic are useless at night. I think Truglo make a combo FO/tritium that many seem to like, but I've never tried. Tritium glows by itself, and does not need to be charged. Expect them to last about 10 years. In complete darkness, you can see your sights, but not your target. Do you want to take that shot? In low light, they help tremendously. They are usually outlined with white paint, so you can see them during the day.

I've had Trijicon's, which I like a lot, but expect to pay in the neighborhood of $100. If you buy them from Trijicon and ship them your slide, they will install them. Most LGSs will do the same. Trijicon will relamp them for a reduced cost (about $60 IIRC) when they do finally go dim, but you have to ship it to them on your dime.
Trijicon® products are known for offering legendary reliability, absolute accuracy and industry-leading technology to shooting enthusiasts, law enforcement agencies and the U.S. military and its allies.

I've had Meprolights, which worked just fine. Would not hesitate to buy them again.

Your best bet would be to send your slide to Glock. For $57, they will install Glock factory night sights, clean it, replace the springs, and perform any needed upgrades. Can't beat that deal. Had four slides done a few months ago, and that's the way I will go for my Glocks for now on. Glock makes the steel sight body, Meprolight makes their tritium vials.

67....I like the ICE claw rear sights and the ameriglo front in yellow. All my glocks carry the same sights. The ICE rear is all steeln with a hard edge on the front to rack the slide on with one hand. They won't break like the plastic stock rear. The front has a big yellow circle that is very good in the day and has a tritium insert for at night. The rears are blacked out.

      Its all personal preference.

Just got 2 slides back from Smyrna, GA. Turn around time 10 days. As an added bonus, if you send them a stripped slide they'll return it with all new internals. ;)

          Thanks for the info guys!
I think I'll try the Glock night sights on my 27. For the price I may as well give them a shot.
Do they do any kind of functionality check (make sure the sights are aligned properly) before sending it back? Or is that up to me once i get it back?

I was a big fan of night sights until I held the gun, in total darkness after my alarm went off, and walked past a mirror to see that it lite up my face to be a perfect target to a bad guy with a gun!
I only keep well worn out night sights on my guns now.

I don't know if they assemble your slide onto a complete firearm and zero them like is done on a new or complete gun that is sent to them. They will put on the same elevation rear sight that are on your slide now. Until recently, Glock only had two size front sights, the standard and suppressor. The now make another size front sight, but I have yet to actually see one. Expect them to at least be centered/close, because the factory Glock sight tool does have alignment marks.

Re: Factory Glock NS IIRC, Meprolite makes the entire sight according to Glock Specs , hence the different angle on sides of rear sight. If you check Brownells or Midway , there are different sight tool needed to change the rear sight due to angle cut although never had issue with standard straight sided one from MGW.

When I took the Glock armored course I took last year, the instructor told us Glock made the steel sight bodies, Meprolight made the tritium. They actually say "Glock" on them.

Things like this change a lot when it come to manufacturing and combined with trainers and sales staff, sometimes there are competing points of info. When I first took the armorers class, Glock wouldn't divulge who made there night sights. Four years ago when I took a refresher course, they openly said Meprolite makes it. Last year when I took the course, the instructor said the same as 4 years ago. Makes no difference either way. No matter who makes what, if at all possible try and look at a bunch ( Trijicon standard & HD, Meprolite etc) to see which catches your eye better (sight picture) and allows you to shoot accurately. Some colors work better for some , while others prefer, due to age , vision acuity etc .larger front dot. Good luck!

Well whenever the Freeport Blast happens this year, hopefully enough people bring different types of night sights. It would be nice to actually see some in real life before plunking down some shekels.
