I noticed that Freds Gun Shop had its soft opening a couple of days ago, so I stopped off for a quick chat this afternoon.
Owner is a nice guy, maybe early or mid 30's, friendly, a LI local and a licensed gunsmith. He seems to know all the other LI stores and their strengths and weaknesses.
A good sign, I walked in the door and the owner immediately showed respect and thanked me for stopping by. Happy to talk but not overly pushing or selling anything, just wanted me to have a nice experience..... this is one of the reasons I like small businesses.
I have a feeling this may be his first business so he's "learning the ropes" and trying to figure things out, such as pricing related to Ammo transfers, or FFL transfer pricing.
He's still unpacking store inventory and awaiting some FFL paperwork, so his inventory isn't where he wants it to be, but don't let this discourage you from stopping by.
A reasonable selection of knives, scopes, AR15 parts, ammo cans, cleaning products, ear/eye protection - at least at first glance.
Prices are positioned as you'd expect for a small-business-owner gun store, I think we'll see them drift up and down as he figures out his customers.
Overall, a great experience, nice guy to chat with, I'd had no issues directing customers to him.
I recommend people stop by and say hello.
... and, importantly, ........ I also made sure he understands that www.longislandgunclub.com is the place he needs to be.
