    Devil's Brigade

Just finished watching a recently made documentary on the Devil's Brigade. I HIGHLY recommend it. Just watched the last episode... awesome tribute to the Canadian and American veterans.

Basically they take a mixed bag of Canadians and Americans, many recent vets and current soldiers. They train and equip them as 1942 soldiers in the brigade. They mix it with interviews of actual DB members and do some live fire exercises.

Pretty good overall. The most interesting thing is the vets having to adapt their tactics to 1942 equipment... Not as many rounds, slower rate of fire, no night vision, etc...

For kicks and giggles they throw in some complete newbies and see how they do.

Two outstanding characters is a retired RSM and the unarmed fighting specialist. One of the "recruits" actually is a unarmed combat instructor... The 60 year old instructor is a vicious bastard, deals with the recruit in about half a second. With an index finger to the eye 😜
The instructors are told to cut anyone who is a liability while the soldiers are told if they make it through they get to re-enact the famous Italian climb.... And guess what, they will have actual ex-German panzer grenadiers up at the top waiting for them!

I will try to catch that.

    The 1968 movie was great!

The Devil's Brigade: Directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. With William Holden, Cliff Robertson, Vince Edwards, Andrew Prine. A US Army Colonel is tasked with forming an elite commando-style unit from crack Canadian troops and the dregs of the US Army.

These were left on the dead by Brigade members to give the other Germans something to think about.
