Can I store a rifle long term in a hard gun case with no harm done?

Would there be an issue in storing an AR15 in a Plano all weather gun case(below) long term? I do not have a gun safe yet(working on it) and I want to at least lock up my rifle so it cannot be accessed by my kids. My build isn't complete as of yet, so the gun isn't even functional. I don't even have any 223/556 ammo yet.

Do I need to worry about moisture or anything if I keep it locked up in the case pictured below? I ordered it off amazon today for ~$65. Seems like a great case.

If you check it periodically you should be okay.

i believe when guns are kept in cases gun manufacturers coat them or wrap them in a special paper to prevent rust.
long term you may have a issue

No problem. If you are concerned just give a light coat of oil.

I would only do that if you put the rifle in a rust preventative bag. The foam may deteriorate over time. That may affect the rifle's finish.

My father would always give them a light coat of oil and the bore s light coat of grease if stored over a year. If your that concerned when you finish the build I will happy to uh store it for you

most of the foam in the cases will attract and absorb moisture , wrap them in a silicon gun sock if you have to store them inside a case

Play it safe and also use an Allen Knit Gun Sock. I paid $4.97 each at the Middle Island Walmart.

                      Absolutely, this.

Don't leave the gun in direct contact with the foam. I've seen that foam break down after many years, turn to mush and stick to things like glue. May be it reacts with something over time, I don't know. A generous coating of Ballistol and a breathable gun sock and the rifle should be fine for decades. But still check it once a year, or so.

Give a man fire, and he stays warm for one night. Set a man on fire, and he stays warm for the rest of his life.

Also watch what you let the case rest on. Cold floor/warm house equals condensation and vice versa.
