Giving some thought to the process Walmart has been conducting, my guess is that within a year to two years - Walmart will stop selling any firearms and ammunition at all. They have made it clear, at least to me, they are on that path and are doing so slowly and gradually so as to make the changes, if not more acceptable, at least less likely to trigger a massive boycott of the Walmart chain. So what has been their gradual progression toward being gun and ammo free:

As Long as I can recall: Refusing to sell 'military style' firearms.

2008: Joining with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and implementing The Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership one of the terms which stated Walmart would not sell a firearms to someone for whom they had not received a "proceed" in their background check even though federal law allows such sales after a three day delay. Note: The Truth About Guns article about Walmart becoming a member of the Responsible Firearms Retailer partnership makes it seem, at least to me, like this is something new and they state that such almost went unnoticed as if implying they uncovered it. The truth be told - Walmart evidently has been a leading member of said group since 2008 (source).

Several Years ago: Policy of walking/escorting a gun purchasing customer out of the store.

Several years ago: Requiring ID to purchase ammo that could be used in a handgun.

2018: Raising the age at which someone can buy ammo or firearms, at their stores, from 18 to 21.

2019: Stopping sales of firearms at certain Walmarts where they were sold previously.Ceasing sales of handguns (in Alaska which; for the great majority of WM stores they never sold handguns in the first place)
2019: Ceasing sales of ammunition for handguns.
2019: Ceasing sales of ammo they deem to be for short barreled rifles (what a friggin joke - another uninformed leftist arsehat must have written up that restriction)

They act as if they are RKBA friendly and that they somehow support sportsmen and hunters but the truth is little by little they are restricting firearms and ammo sales and sooner or later my guess is they will cease them altogether. I guess they learned from K-Mart that if they do it all at once or at least too much at once - they will lose a great deal of their customer base. So they do it in dribs and drabs as to not be too much at once

Gee, if only I had ever shopped at Walmart I could stop forever . . . But that would be redundant.

Walmart is no more anit-gun than they were deep gay/LGTBQ/102+ genders supporters back in June.

It's whatever the market winds of the day are blowing.

Just confirmed with the sporting goods rep at centereach - they are eliminating 5.56/.223, all handgun ammo, and .22 short(?????????????????).
Full-size cartridges, .22 long, and 7.62x39 will still be carried.

They had a big contract with Rubbermaid. They kept telling them to lower their price or lose the business. Finally they said, "Hey, look, we've got an empty factory in China, move your fabricating over there." So they did. Then Walmart says they have to lower their price again. Rubbermaid says they won't make money. Walmart says that's OK, it's our factory now we don't need you. They killed so many businesses.

The Walton's are the richest family in America. I'm sure Bill got his cut.
