    In Ear Hearing Protection

Does anyone have any opinion on In Ear protection like the Decibullz Custom Molded Earplugs or the SureFire EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus or any other in ear protection.

I use those orange plugs by Howard Leight. They're rated at 33 dbl

I use the surefire EP4 and EP5 , I can have a conversation without yelling, I hear people talking and other noises around me,,,gun fire is muffled. .the foam earplugs probably drown out all sounds better, but the EP4 is what I was looking for ...having a conversation without taking my ear plugs out and still having hearing protection from gun fire.

LIF had that guy Marcf that did molded plugs. I don't think he's still around though.

My hearing Doctor made me a custom molded set. He begins with a complete hearing test to be retained as a baseline for future tests. Fit was perfect. Pro 2a guy , very satisfied. Was made in about a week after a mold was made.

Tell us who he is. I'm sure some guys here would want to go see a good hearing doctor. I know I would.

I have been using the sonic defenders for years, love em, but my hearing is terrible to begin with, at about 65% of what it was 10 years ago.

Sonic defenders work well, you have to order your correct size. Decibullz work good also but you have to mold them on your own. I had a pair of customs done by the guy Pate mentioned which are good too.

For in ear protection the cheapo foam stuff works pretty well. I do also use the sonic defenders. I don't find it works as well as the disposable foam plugs. They do make 2 versions. One uses a silicone cone and the later ones you can get with the foam ear tips. I find the ones with the foam woks better.

Then again, I think R. Lee Ermey just sticks a couple of .40s in his ears

I think it's a personal thing, what works well for some.... so you're going to get conflicting opinions.

I got a set of SureFire's when they came out and threw them away because for ME, they were the most ineffectve ear plugs I've ever used. I've gotten a few more pairs over the years at matches and alway give them away.

I have a set of custom molded ear plugs and honestly I think quality foam ones work better. Because of this I don't use them much. Where they are a benefit is when I need to take the plugs in and out frequently, like working a match. When mine finally wear out or I lose them I won'r be replacing them.

I just had a pair made when I was at Camp Perry last week. They fit well, just takes time getting used to inserting them properly. They work pretty well for matches when others are shooting but you probably want to wear the earmuffs over them when you shoot. The vibration and sound gets in from the back of the ear as I'm told. I got them because at matches after an hour or so the ear muffs start to hurt,

The Decibullz Custom Molded are put in hot water and then you let them cool and put them in your ear and they take shape to your ear as they continue to cool. Sounds good in theory...
