Have a child who wants to learn to shoot? The Freeport Junior Club is a great place for them to learn with other kids!

Their web site is: http://www.freeportjuniorclub.org. They have a Facebook page as well.

They start back up the last Sunday in September.

My 9yo daughter asked to come shooting with me yesterday.... I told her about this junior program and she got excited.

The details on the website are hand-wavy and for previous years. I stopped using Facebook a year ago.
I'm NOT a Freeport member..... Other than the assumed NRA membership requirement for her, do I just randomly show up on any given Sunday 10am staring 25th?

I feel like I have a dozen questions that need to be asked first, so I need more info first.... (safety, scheduling, costs, equipment, attire, adult oversight etc). Who should I reach out to?

I don't know if she'd go once, or would like to go more frequently.... But certainly she's interested.

The Freeport Juniors is overseen by an amazing group of dedicated folks willing to lend their expertise to the next generation of shooters.
I'm happy to be part of a club (LIGC) who showed them such phenomenal support at the last Freeport Blast.

Side note: I'll never be able to repay them for the decency they showed to me and mine when the need was there.

Steve - Reach out to PeterGunn, (the artist formerly known as T Webb) or Dan0351 and I'm pretty sure they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Steve, they have everything... Eye and ear protection, they even provide rifle and ammo for the kids! They will take the kids through safety training, etc... You do not have to be a member of Freeport, but after your 3rd or 4th visit you will go "hey, I should join so when I drop her off to shoot junior inside I can be shooting outside!" Then she can borrow a junior rifle and join you outside after... And they even give her ammo for that! It is really awesome for the kids!!!

it is every Sunday from 2-5... Come at 2pm so she does not wait in line for her turn to shoot.

The other advantage of being a Freeport and junior members is you can bring the kids anytime outside of the regular junior time to shoot!

Remind me again, what age does the junior program start?

When your child is capable of understanding the responsibility of using a firearm. Some kids it's 6 some it's 66....everyone is different.

I bought my daughter her NRA Junior Membership today, in preparation for the Freeport program. That felt pretty good, I have to say.

I'm a Freeport range member and so far my experience there has been nothing but positive. Everyone I've met so far has been helpful and friendly. I'm planning to sign my son up as soon as I (but mainly my wife) get more comfortable with the idea of him shooting.

Does anyone know if you can use a scoped 22 at the Freeport juniors?

Yes after the kids shoot. They should learn on open sights. If you do not have a rifle with open sights they have more than enough for the kids to use.

Thanks Habsfan, I picked my son up a Ruger American compact 22 but I wasn't sure if I should put a scope on .
