    That Others May Live

Most of you know that we have a NY Air National Guard (NYANG) USAF Base out in Westhampton. I’d say few realize the extent and the importance of the mission(s) the Unit carries out.
Today, in an unusual step, (unusual because Guard Units almost always get recycled/retiring aircraft coming off the line from the Active Duty side. Rare to get one straight off the assembly line) NYANG received the first of 4 brand spanking new fixed wing aircraft. “Spirit of Long Island” was dedicated today and will be follow (very soon) by 3 more HC130J airplanes.
A short video snapshot of 106th and some of what they do.

Having spent the last 25+ summers at my pool 1 mile past the southwest end of 6/24 I have been admiring the 106th RQW for a long time. Every time they turn over the engine in one of the HC-130s is a reminder of the vigil they stand.

Hats off to them, and the heroes that have given all from there (including those lost in Iraq this past fall).

(On a separate note, circa 1995 when there was no fence at the base/airport, my buddies and I did sneak on the runway on bikes and run it at 125+ MPH before peeling off . . . )
Know your rights/Refuse peacefully to consent to a search /Ask if you are free to go or are being detained/Even if you are not doing anything wrong the 4th Amendment protects you against unreasonable searches/Never say anything to law enforcement even if you think it will help you/If questioned you should clearly and unequivocally request that you would like to have an attorney present and defer any questions until then/Never go to prison because you are afraid to go to jail.
