Our ground forces in worse shape than I thought?

Our mission focus is screwed up. Our capabilities are significantly diminished. There is no political will to reverse the bleed and restore our military to the manning, equipment and operational state of readiness it should be at.
Our strategic and operational capabilities, even if restored in manning, have very little war fighting resources available to them. We emptied our munitions stocks during the post 9/11 wars and what was left has been sent to or committed to Ukraine.
We are in poor shape if we have to defend ourselves against anyone stronger than the Vermont National Guard.
ETA: news of the day.

There is a failure rate of approximate 15% across the services of those who enter basic training. There has always been those that are not capable.
There are standards you must achieve to pass basic you must pass physical and mental tests if you fail you are out.
That figure doesn't show weakness it shows the strength of our military it shows those not capable are removed and only those capable of performing the job are accepted..
Everyone struggles during basic training most make it through some dont .
Why not look at the other 85% who didnt fail and went on and became the backbone of our military .
Also those in the video VOLUNTERED for military service most so called "woke" people wouldn't so they're not "woke" .
If you fail basic training you are not eligible to go any further in the military and you are NOT considered a Veteran.

basic seems to be much easier now than the 80's i do not think the navy even teaches shooting any more ... Air Force runs in sneakers , not combat boots , shorts not bdu's . hell the Marines do not force you to put a crayon up your nose anymore ( going to get yelled at for that one)
and a lot of special units have like 80% or more failure rate --- not the easiest thing to do and what a wake up call
i have talked to a lot of guys who came out recent and compared to earlier this is my assessment

What was the failure rate 10, 20, or 30 years ago? Was it 15% or lower or higher? If it was significantly lower that “could” mean the there aren’t enough people capable of meeting the needs of the service which means being under staffed. That’s not strength through selectively weeding out the unfit, that’s weakness through not having enough people in the populace who are fit and that’s a very serious problem.

I'm counting like 57 in my graduating class (1979). I recall there being well over a hundred in the very beginning. A lot got filtered out in the 1st week or so. Others as time went by.
Edit: 1st active week. Took like a week to form up a company.

Weeding out is a common and necessary process. First day on the track team in junior high school.... they had us running constant laps around the gym for the entire practice without a break. Next day we had a lot fewer guys show up.

why is there only one dude really smiling ---- dammm and you guys have / allowed beards and mustaches in pictures

Initially during the first draft of ww2 over 50% were deemed unfit for duty yet look at how that generation has become the greatest generation this country has ever seen.
So don't judge todays military to harshly .Last edited by John M.; 03-19-2023, 08:40 AM.

Just wondering where/when did you serve?
Also how many male service members are running around in dresses looking to transition to female ?
Even so if they want to serve and are capable should they be denied ?Last edited by John M.; 03-19-2023, 09:15 AM.

It's not the recruits so much as it is the leftist agenda running the leadership.

For the most part the Joint services are still maintaining a high level of proficiency at all stages ....lucky for us.
Generals and Admirals are all political appointments so they now seem to pander to the masses as most politicians do .....which is unfortunateLast edited by John M.; 03-19-2023, 09:31 AM.

Drug waivers, felony waivers, fitness waivers, medical waivers…and still we cannot maintain adequate force strength.
Don’t misunderstand my criticism as a lack of admiration and respect for those who are serving, even those who try but cannot complete the training. I believe that despite our manning problems we have some of the most extraordinary young people in the world wearing our uniform today.
Despite that, the civilian political leadership and the astoundingly disconnected military leadership are driving our services into ruin.
Stress time outs, exemptions from physical activity, inability to obtain security clearances, tolerance for apathetic attitudes and difficulty attaining retention or prompt ability standards are serious threats to our readiness and will not…cannot be resolved until the political piece gets fixed.
The Few have become The Fewer, Be Some of you want to be and a steady diet of striving for mediocrity will be our doom if it is not corrected. That is less a reflection on the men and women serving and more a function of our society and culture and the collective of anti American imbeciles driving policy inside and outside of our military.
The Chinese, Russians, NK’s, Iran and much of the rest of the UN are watching, learning and strategizing ever ounce of our lack of preparedness.

I agree with a lot of what you say but I really don't see the amount of "woke" that most are claiming exists. I visit a Marine base about every 2 weeks all the service members I see and interact with are upholding the standards I've always associated with the Marine Corp ( I was Army ).
I've heard the "exscuse" that today's battlefield is more "tech" driven so the physical demands are less but I disagree with that mentality ....all service members need to be capable of effectively mentally and physically using a weapon and employing tactics if needed that's the purpose of basic training your MOS may be file clerk but you have the knowledge needed to be a ground troop .
I think if we brought back the draft or had mandatory military service thing would be much better..
The politicians are our downfall not the service members.
My original comments were to the OP where he says go to 7:30 in the video he posted to show the failure of the recruits who were struggling with the task at hand as if to say " this is our military today " which we know is not the case.Last edited by John M.; 03-19-2023, 07:14 PM.
