I read the review on one of the gun blogs....TTAG/All outddor or one of them. Got really good reviews. I am seriously thinking about ordering one. Yes, it's an "all-in-one" type of thing as opposed to dedicated night vision....but for under $500.

Claims to have a 300 yard IR illumination range. I doubt that.
I've used camcorders with "enhanced" night viewing that amplified ambient light. Worked well but it took a lot of time for the image to stabilize in the viewer. Not good for scanning.
I am not armed out of fear of who's in front of me.
