Also need sights and mags, plus whatever is needed to make it compliant, whichever method you choose.
Can realistically be built compliant in the $400 range.

    $5 flat rate shipping.

If anybody is considering, and afraid to build, don't be. Myself and others here have everything you'd need to assemble, and would be happy to help.

I am not armed out of fear of who's in front of me.
I am armed out of love of those behind me.

so, I may consider this, and definitely am wary (but willing) to building. I know the stock and grip are a no-no for a detachable mag, but what else to make it NY compliant?

Got to do something about the threaded barrel also. Easiest way is just to do a fixed mag.

What a time to be alive where you can build an AR for $400 and a quality AK is 700-1000+.

Fixed mag is the most convenient way to go. You'll need a P-mag or similar.

Can be had locally for about $20. Cheaper online, but shipping would most likely kill any savings if you're just buying one piece.

If you want the epitome of low budget mag lock, use a 10-32 nut with a washer in place of the mag catch button.

Or, if you want to go featureless, you have some decisions to make, and a few more bucks to spend.
The Thordsen stock is almost like "Old Reliable", but not everybody's favorite, and not exactly cheap.
If you can live with green, (or own some Krylon Fusion spray paint) they start at $50, and go up from there.
                      https://www.thordsencustoms.com/frs-...od-green/.html

You can buy the thread protector at the same place as the kit:

I can drill and pin it for you, but you'll need it welded.

The stock can be locked a few different ways:
                      https://www.longislandgunclub.com/fo...8956-stock-lok

I recently came across these at Primary Arms:

Spur grips kinda suck. If you want a featureless grip, these are cheaper and better (also from the same place that sells the kit):

If I took a lower and used that JB weld stuff to epoxy that mag in the well would that be good to go in NY. I’d imagine when I’m standing in front of the judge and my lawyer tells the prosecutor to try to remove the mag my case would be dropped then I could sue

Nobody in NYS (except maybe DSI) will tell what’s good and what’s not.
