We all like deals - but sometimes they SUCK

I'd seen this article linked here and kept it in the back of my mind.

I was fortunate to join in on the Savage A17 group buy through this site (Thank you Dr DDS). I'd been holding off on buying a scope till i had some extra cash. Recently did a favor and came into a decent sized amazon gift card so I picked up the BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 RGB. Has great reviews and I was excited. Box came and it was fishy. Two quality assured stickers on the bottom, so i thought it may be refurbished. Opened it up and sure enough - nicks and scuffs - and a smear on the glass. Amazon did replace it in 2 days - and it was delivered on a Sunday - impressive. The 2nd one was worse than the first. Even lacking the Sweet 17 branding on the lens caps. Sending them both back to Amazon and I sit here sad. But I wasnt done. I sent an email to BSA, just to see what they would say. Their response:

"You will find that some time amazon, ebay and opticsplanet will come across some knock offs and sell them as a BSA factory scope, The better retailers to purchase actual factory products at cabelas, bass pro, academy, dicks and big five sports goods,, On the internet midwayusa.com,brownells.com"

    Thank you

Was I a cheap fuck and go for the $60 less way to obtain this scope? Sure. But damnit to hell, this is just not ok. I tried to post a review to Amazon stating all of this, of course it was denied and the scope on amazon still sits there with 4.5 stars waiting for the next jerkoff to save a few bucks. Lesson learned, support your local. Save the frustration.
Sellers on Amazon have long dealt with counterfeiters, but with Chinese manufacturers flooding the marketplace the problem is exploding.

BSA makes crappy scopes. I had a few, (like 3 or 4) and they all seemed OK initially. Only have one left on my 10/22 that's been there for 5 years with no problems. The others were all returned. Pretty sure I bought them all from Sportsman's Guide, (who I no longer deal with because they cut NY off). Would not be the least bit surprised if they were knockoffs. But, If BSA were not priced as cheap as these places sell them, would they be a good value? I don't think so. I've bought others at similar prices (Bushnell and Pentax) that have served me well. Are the Chinese only knocking off BSA? Especially when the originals are made in China? Doubt it. Sounds like a cop out on BSA's part. Yeah, I know about counterfeit Aimpoints and Leupolds. Have yet to hear about a fake Bushnell, Burris, Vortex, Nikon or Redfields.

The biggest pile of crap of them all was a Sweet22. They make two very different models both called Sweet22. Bought the cheaper one. Worst scope I ever owned. No matter what I did, the changeable turret knobs would not stay put.

    Better one: https://bsaoptics.com/product/sweet-22-sp/
Piece of crap I bought: https://bsaoptics.com/product/sweet-...bjective-22lr/

Never again. Too many other, better scopes out there.
    Steve

+ a whole bunch for redfield, i hav bought a few scopes and a red dot from them recently and they all perform beyond my expectations. Redfield was taken over by leupold not too long ago, for what is worth.

I shop Amazon for some computer accessories. Since CompUSA and Radio Shack are no more there's not a lot places to buy these things.

I swear microcenter should take about 75-100 sf and sell the little things like switches and plugs and solder and heat shrink and all that crap that radio shack used to have.

                    amazon is garbage, check

Instead of reading a bunch of reviews online( many of which are shill reviews) you should have asked LIGC.

Stay away from third-party fulfillment items, no matter how tempting the price. Make sure it's sold by or fulfilled by Amazon.
