Any Sig is great. I have almost every European made model. I know McFly just got a 226 Legion. Wichever Sig you choose is ok, NEVER buy a Glock. Glock's are plastic ware that ain't fun to wear!!
My P226 and my P239 are my two favorite guns. I have more. They are an addiction. I bought the P239 in .40 S&W, I was able to buy a drop-in .357 sig barrel, and I had a Bar-Sto 9mm drop-in custom fitted. (You can just get a drop-in, but they will custom fit it for tighter tolerances). So it is three in one!
On the P226, you may be able to do the same drop ins, but I did it backwards, because the 226 I wanted was a 9mm, so I added a Sig Caliber exchange kit in .40, which comes with a new slide, and bought in a drop-in .357sig barrel, and a 9mm barrel, right from Sig for the the .40 slide, and I have 3 calibers in that one too!
Had a sig. Double action first shot killed it for me. Wouldn't consider it for a comp gun for me because my first shot with DA was so bad.
Sold it and got a 1911.
I haven't shot competition for a while, and you are right that the pull on the double action is close to 10 pounds. My P239 is a DAK LEO edition (not SAS gen 2) which I hated when I got it, almost sent it to Sig, as they will swap DAK with SA/DA or vice-versa, but I wanted to force myself to get used to. I think it is around 5 pounds, but both can have work done. I have to agree, 1911 is the way to go. I don't even own one, but it is next.
Edit: maybe not 10, but at least 7, or 8 lbs. My S&W 686 is 10 lbs easy on DA!
