Some of you may have saw my post on another forum but figure'd I'd ask/post the status here...
I wanted a Ruger 22/45 Lite... so I ordered one from my dad in Florida... thing has a threaded barrel so he pinned a compensator on it for me before shipping it... and.. here is that update:
Soo pistol arrived at DSI today... looks really cool. My father pinned the compensator on it (he was going to weld it but it's an aluminum compensator, aluminum frame... difficult/messy to weld). DSI can't do the transfer however because it would be their name on the paperwork and they are not confident it's 100% NY legal.
Pins in there but it's REALLY in there my dad says, he compressed the pin after installing it so that it can't come out without drilling.
It is a steel barrel but there would be no way (from what I can tell) to weld it, because you can't get to the barrel, as there is an aluminum frame around the barrel. The barrel is where the threads are.
I emailed DSI to find out if they'd have a way of welding a steel compensator onto it, but again, not sure how they'd do that since the aluminum frame covers the barrel.
I don't want to have the aluminum welded unless it can be done so very neatly/cleanly.
I could not find anywhere in my research about having to have it pinned AND welded. I know DSI needs to cover themselves. $25 to risk one's firearms license... can't blame them there... but maybe there are some other dealers who have had more experience in this that are on this forum that can weigh in.
I mean, the damn things pinned, that essentially makes the firearm no longer have this part of the SAFE act:
"A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward hand grip or silencer"
Being the threaded barrel has now been "fixed"... not sure, im not a lawyer...
any input here from you guys? Right now I have a few emails out to folks to see what they can do... last resort is
1) Keep it in FL as my toy when I go down there
2) Have my dad sell it after he removes the compensator
