    How much is "Enough?"

How do you folks consider this issue: When is "enough?"

I love seeking out good guns and getting a deal, or even paying a fair price....it's a lot of fun. But I'm running out of things to look for, caught between the pleasure of buying and the common financial sense of asking, "Do I really need this and could I just buy more ammo, or new grips, or night sights."

I'm not bragging or anything but I seem to have accumulated a bunch of pistols: 4 for carry (Shield, Walther P5, Sig 320, and P6), 3 for Home Defense (Sig SP2022 and S&W 5906 and .357 model 19) and a bunch I just like (4 Berettas, BHP and Browing BDM, Colt Gov't 9mm, a P38/P1 and a few more Smiths and Sigs.)

There isn't a category I don't have covered in essentially quality guns -- Carry, Home Defense, Range/Plinking, and semi-collectibles) and frankly, there's only one gun on my wish list right now, a Walther P4, the 4" version of the P1. When I consider Ruger or Taurus or Springfield, I think I've got anything they could offer in really quality stuff....and I have no interest in them. And I don't have the income for true collectibles such as Colt, S&W or things like Sig 210s or P88s. And I simply don't shoot .45.

I accumulated most of these by buying "good" guns, like first and second generation Smiths, and selling them for a bit (or a bunch) more than I paid for them, always trading up in terms of quality. I ain't saying I've not invested a bunch of money in our hobby....but it was money I could afford without short-changing anyone in the family.

So now I'm trying to figure out what's next. I've got good long guns, all milsurps, that I did the same thing with. My Swiss rifles, Swedish Mausers, Enfields and, yes, one evil black assault rifle (a S&W). Wondering if there's something new to collect. Rolex watches? Jaguars? Depression glass? Quilts? Debt?

How do you folks handle this?

Get what you like. As long as you can afford it, don't sell anything. No reason you can't go historical (percussion cap or flintlock).
It's got to interest you, so nobody can tell you what to collect.
        I like military helmets/ headgear.
BTW, you didn't mention Webley pistols.

I'm new to the sport but my take on this and pretty much everything is this:

If you can afford it; if it doesn't take away from being able to provide for your family; if you're not failing to pay the rent/mortgage because of it; and it brings you happiness, then go all in.

In short, buy what you like and can comfortably afford. Enjoy life.

It really depends on YOU, not anyone else. There's some here that would love to have what you have, and many others that would call what you have, "a good start". For instance, you like and own Sigs, but how many do you have? Do you have a 226 and a 228 and a 225(P6) and a 239? There are DOZENS of good MilSurps out there, do you have them all? You only mentioned one wheel gun. I have lots of revolvers, but there's more that I want than I own. I own Chinese, Yugo, Russian, Romanian SKS's, but now trying to collect the other nation's versions (E. German, Albanian, ?), but that's me. For most, 'enough' may be just one Chinese version.
Do you have Civil War or pre-WW1 firearms? Lugers? AK's? You're in WA, you're choices are almost endless!

"Enough" is an individual thing. After 30 years of pretty actively collecting, I surely don't have enough.

You know the word Pat. When you put your wallet on the counter and Kim takes some money out, and when she has the right amount of money, see says, "That's Enough". And then she gives you back your (now much thinner) wallet.

It is rewarding. That look on someone's face when they put some rounds down range for the first time. Priceless. And you know that person will be enjoying the sport for years to come.

I don't have pictures yet, but my youngest just told me that he and his friend went to their first range today in the Shenandoah Mountains an hour from his new home in VA.

Public range, inside public parkland, meaning it's paid for by tax money. No entry fee, no window stickers, no permits. Just an open range of 100, 200 and 300 yards with covered benches and a pistol range. Just drive up the mountain (no small cars, need a high ground clearance) and pick a bench or stand and shoot. Like Heaven, only with guns! Open rain or shine in daylight hours.

He shot his Colt HBAR I recently gifted him, fully tricked out, no Safe Act compliance required. And they shot his new 686-plus SW .357.
I sent him a CZ Bolt Action .22LR for his girlfriend to learn on, he's going back soon for her to have her first range day. We'll get pics for sure.

Smells like Freedom. Looks like I'll be sending him some more ammo soon. (I'm a good dad?)

Sounds like you may want to focus on maximizing/accessorizing what you have.

Take a simple Remington 700 bolt action for example. You can spend a lot of time selecting a new stock, trigger, detachable magazine, glass, bipod, etc.
