Breaking: Photo Of The New FBI Glock 17M Leaked

I still want a Walther PPQ but here you go:

It appears that someone finally got their new Glock 17M duty gun in from Glock! I am inclined to believe that it is a genuine photo because our source is an officer with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department, one of the first agencies to receive the new guns. The officer that this 17M belongs to is one of the first to get the new Glock, there is no new information at this time and it appears that many of the rumors have been confirmed. Glock has not released any information as of yet; we will update as we learn more.

At a glance, we can see that the rumors that the gun will be sporting a magwell appear to be confirmed. There was talk that the Glock mothership in Austria wasn’t too keen on adding a flared magwell for whatever reason. I would love to hear the rationale behind that one. The most interesting thing about the 17M below is that it appears to be a Gen 4. This seems to give the rumor that we will see a Gen 5 around SHOT 2017 more weight. The list below was leaked by an officer attending the Glock 17M/19M training, it appears that he hit the nail on the head.
    • A new tougher finish
    • Changes in the rifling
    • Longer recoil spring assembly
    • Reinforced forward notch for the recoil spring assembly
    • A smoother trigger similar to the G42/43
    • Flared magwell
    • No finger grooved
    • Changes in the safety plunger
    • Ambidextrous slide release
    • Magazines have an extended front lip
    • Magazine well cutout
Keep a look out for more information on the 17M and 19M pistols. I imagine that there will be some better photos surfacing as well as a good statement from Glock regarding what changes they made.

A lot of very small changes but they seemed to be improvement. I'm pretty surprised they went to a traditional rifling barrel. The biggest takeaway for me is the lack of finger grooves, that is a good move on their part.

I have two thoughts on this, assuming this info is real/correct.

1-With all of those changes, it isn't a "Glock" anymore. It's a specialized concept model mfg'd by Glock to specific specs. I doubt it even feels much like a garden variety G17.

2-The FBI did address one of the issues I consider to be the biggest weaknesses that plague Glock models: Trigger reach and the mag release. At least Gen 4's have a removable backstrap, this thing is a one size fits all. Not good for Agents with short fingers.
I hate Glock mag releases. I always assumed Glock fans were brainwashed to accept the abnormal wrist twisting and having the opposite side of the catch press agains your middle & ring finger preventing the mag from coming free. Glock mags are not nearly as slick as other brand's mags. Lots of drag on the polymer. Apparently the FBI wants their mags to drop better than the stock models.

      Anyway,that's my .02

I swear, Glock said my Gen 1 G17 was "Perfection" when I got it in 1990......We're now at Perfection 5.0, with 6.0 coming soon?

I took a Glock's armorer's school in the early 90's (and every 3 years thereafter) - even back then they said that they've made numerous changes to the Gen. 1 without changing the generation or model. I'm glad Glock recognizes the need to modify, like most companies.

Truthfully, I'm not too up to date with Glock products right now - do all the newer Glock 17's had that angled nose? Looks like a quick attempt to radius it.

I personally like the finger groves. No removeable back straps some of the agents arent going to like that. One size does not fit all.

Very surprising that they went back to the original 1 pin (plus trigger pin) setup. Glad I kept my originals.

Where does it indicate no removable backstrap?
