I’m doing a 4 whiskey blind tonight. Barrel proof blind - Belle Meade cask strength, Stagg Jr, Elija Craig Barrel Proof, bookers

Jefferson’s ocean aged at sea is my new favorite. Cool story behind it. 8 year aged bourbon put on the bow of ships to age for 2 years. They call it it “salted caramel popcorn bourbon” Unique taste

I've looked at that bottle 100x in the store; maybe I'll pull the trigger on it now.

Line up for tonight. Gonna do a blind tasting see which one rules the roost in my collection

Wow did my first blind tasting with barrel proofs, here’s my results:

            Straight tasting no water added

            1 - Elija Craig Barrel Proof B518
2 - Belle Meade Cask Strength
            3 - Stagg Jr Batch 12
            4 - Bookers 2019-01 Theresa Batch

            ECBP was a good sipper
Belle Meade was the most balanced
Stagg Jr had a constant Kentucky Hug on each sip (but good flavor)
            bookers was flat

Tasting with 5 drops of water added:

            1 - Stagg Jr Batch 12
2 - Belle Meade Cask Strength
            3 - Elija Craig Barrel Proof B518
            4 - Bookers 2019-01

Stagg Jr shines with water and the Kentucky hug disappeared.
Belle Meade lost the caramel and vanilla palate and went mild oak but still balanced.
ECBP went rogue with water... very harsh to drink.
Bookers just continues to fall flat.

Overall my wife and I selected the following:
            1 - Stagg Jr
            2 - Belle Meade
            3 - Elija Craig Bp
            4 - Bookers

Stagg Jr maintained a good flavor profile with it without water. Belle Meade was constantly Balanced, ECBP had the most radical changes with water.
            Bookers was flat all around.

I just picked up a bottle of Makers 46 today to enjoy with a nice cigar. I think I like it more than the regular Makers Mark

Speaking of Makers, I'm enjoying their Cask Strength tonight.

Got this for Father's Day. I know it's not bourbon, but it is an excellent rye!
