Backstory, years ago( too damn long) when me and my buddies were in HS we would head down to Englishtown for the Summer Nationals. We went probably 4 years in a row. We would camp out and make long weekends out of it and great times we had. One of my E-Town buddies died about 20 years ago due to brain tumor and another died just two weeks ago on one of his bikes. Driving in my car today I heard a commercial on the radio for the Summer Nationals this weekend and decided I'm going, in memory my lost buddies. Asked the wife if she wanted to go and she said sure she would. Just got off the phone after ordering 2 tickets for Sunday's finals. It will be bittersweet but looking forward to going. Anyone like the drags?

I've lost many friends(Yes, Malaka, I'm old) and the one thing that keeps me going is "Life is for those that choose it".

I think that your idea is a very honorable way to remember your friends, and your past memories together. Sharing this with your wife makes it even better imo.
I had the chance to go to Englishtown for the first time, for this years spring swap meet. I have seen countless pictures and video from races past, but walking across both lanes while crossing from one side of the swap meet to the other, and looking down that strip was awesome. The sense of racing history kind of just hits you from out of nowhere. I have worked weekends for as long as can remember, but I have decided that after my current projects have been completed, E-town races are definitely on my horizon of things that must be done.
Enjoy the Summer Nat's, and all of the memories that go with it.

Thanks I appreciate that. Definitely get to see the races and try to go when they have top fuel and funny cars. There's nothing like it power wise besides maybe seeing an Apollo launch. The power is ground shaking and the smell of nitro in the air is intoxicating. I'm really looking forward to going after all these years.

I've been going for 20+ years.... when Top Fuel was a 1/4 mile. Now it's only 1000', due to Scott Galetta's death. 2 years in row, I was able to get box seats above the starting line. I was lucky enough to get my father to go when I had box seats above the starting line. He loved it. He got me into the sport, but never seen anything like Funny cars or Top fuel Dragsters. I wish my father was still here to go this weekend, but unfortunately that is no longer possible.
The best day to go is either Friday or Saturday. Sunday's are the finals.

Sorry about your dad, you should do as I'm doing and go in his memory.

Bring ear protection, hat, sun screen. And you must walk the pits, and be next to a top fuel dragster when they start-em up in the pits after rebuilding the motor between runs.
Top Fuel is 1000'. Everything else is still 1/4 mile. The speeds are well over 300 MPH at 1000'. I was into it was Eddie Hill was the top fuel king.
