  • Who's our resident car mechanic here?

i have a 2002 Durango that's needs a wheel hub bearing assembly and an intermediate steering shaft replaced.
I have the parts. Tired of going to these places that mark up parts 400%. Pep boys originally told me 2 1/2 hours. If I get the parts they would install them but won't warranty them. Now they just told me 3 1/2 hours. WTF. I walked out pissed . So I guess they just tac on an additional hour for not using their over priced parts. I'm in the HVAC trade so I understand the markup to a point but give me a fucking break. They want to charge $181 for the same part I got on Amazon for $42

Eff pep boys, i not a car guy (though that's changing due to recent new truck) and i went to pep boys a few years back when i was in a jam. If you ever want to have a complete mental breakdown that is the precursor to a psychotic rampage, go to pep boys. Still don't know how i held it together.

I go to pep boys only for parts. I was just there getting today getting plugs for the car. Had to go to two different ones and got 4 at each place. Not much stock for huge places Pain in the ass.

Phil, I had the same problem with the hub bearing. . Uvbnaxed aka Aaron hooked me up. IMHO, he is an excellent mechanic.

Patchogue,. And yes I rather pay someone knowledgeable on the site to make the repair, The repairs don't seem to hard but I'd rather have someone other than myself do it. I replaced the radiator myself last month and I took about 3 hours. It only took the guy on Utube 1. lol

Pepboys is a bunch of HS dropouts. They can't even balance tires correctly. I filed a corporate complaint with them last year.

Had the same issue, went to three stores before I found a machine that actually worked right.
Didn't cost me anything except some time...
          Working...
