    More truck advice...

    Hey all,

So I pulled the trigger on the gmc canyon with the baby duramax and I freaking love it! I'm getting an average of 30 mpg every day all day!

What are you guys running for a diesel fuel additive? Is it even worth it?

Also, the truck came with a drop in liner, I know spray in Is berter. LineX, rhinoliner, (insert name here) who's is best? What do they run? Can anyone recommend anyone?

    Thanks!

Ask Hannco. BTW, which tires came with your new truck?

I dont use any additives in my fuel. Been driving diesels since 03
I use to use the block heater on my 03 but I have never used it on my 07 which is still my current truck and daily driver, never had a problem starting it

for your current bed liner you should have a healthy layer of wax on that bed to protect the paint, if you dont then the plastic liner will rub the paint off

LineX and Rhino are probably the best spray ons. I went with LINEX and used the dealer in West Babylon....they did an good job, but not great. The sprayed over the bed bolts which I was told is a no no. I also have a few spots where it looks like the gun wasn't clean or had dried linex on it and came out stringy...only a couple of spots and no one would notice but me.

I went with the Platinum or diamond, whatever they call it. Supposedly stronger and more fade resistant than their previous best. It's been holding up well but my truck isn't a work truck. Just weekend warrior home dopey/helping people move, hauling a thousand pounds of tiles every once in a blue moon type of thing. I think it cost 700 without doing the tops of the rails and its $100 more to do the tops. They make less expensive lines and this was on a shortbed F150.

If you want the bed to last, ditch the drop in and do the spray. If you plan to kneel in the bed frequently, I would advise to do the linex then a bed rug unless of course you're going to be hauling dirt or mulch. For that, just pull the rug out and do your thing. rinse the bed out when done, let it dry and drop the rug back in.

Good to hear about the fuel, what temp should i,start to worry about geling?

Regarding the Bed liner, in theory the spray on needs to be applied to bear metal, so Keeping the drop in for now would help the cause? Just need to recover funds you know...?

Hi truckie, bed liners are sprayed on top of paint that has been lightly roughed up with a plastic abrasive pad or sandpaper to break up the gloss and give the surface some "tooth" so the liner can adhere better. I personally prefer the insert over the spray just because it is easier to slide heavy objects (engines) into the bed.

I'm more of a weekend warrior regarding the bed use, so I may live with the drop in for a bit. Do you periodically remove your liner to check your bed condition?

I don't have a pick up now, but when i did i would remove the liner and wash and wax the bed and wash the bottom of the liner to make sure there was no abrasive (sand, etc ) there. It took 6-7 years to have paint rub through in a couple of areas, not much to worry about.
