So I'm going to be living in Brooklyn in the fall for school. Currently have a car that I could comfortably afford still while at school, but being as I won't be bringing the car with me to BK, I am open to maybe swapping my lease to someone if it isn't too much of a pain in the ass. If it is, I'll keep it no big deal. So basically I'm just wondering if anyone has done this before and how much of a hassle it would entail. For the record it is a 5 speed '16 Jetta Sport, 2 years left on the lease.

I was looking in to it at one point but never got any better deal that I cant get by my own. Maybe I just have a good credit score?

Damn! The stick factor blows it, daughter out looking at leasing a Jetta today..
btw-buy bumper guard protectors/blanket things and the front plate shock absorber frame. Bk drivers are merciless on bumpers.Last edited by NYDeer; 07-12-2016, 04:47 PM.Hunter, NRA Life Member, NYS Deplorable

Lots of dark alleys in this deal. The title holder is the agency you have to deal with. That could be a bank, a leasing company or a finance arm of a auto manufacturer.
That's who has to allow the deal.. Your contract is with them, not the dealership. Maybe the dealership wants to help you, but I can't imagine why they would, there's nothing in it for them.
Should you just find a friend to make the payments, you are possibly breaking some element of deal, but you are certainly still on the hook to bring the car back, under the specified miles, clean, unbroken and on time. If you give a friend the keys and he disappears, and he never makes a payment you are screwed big time!
You owe all the payments and the lease end value of the car as well. Your friend owes nothing. You gave him the keys, it's not even a stolen car. It's just unauthorized use, a civil court problem.
You can't write him a lease contract on a car you don't own. So he's never responsible for the car.
And don't get me started on the liability and insurance hassles. You can pay the insurance, but if you let him be the primary driver, your insurance company doesn't have to cover your claim if something happens. Your car was for hire, and they don't have to cover you.
If he drives an extra 20,000 miles over the contract, and your lease says 20-cents per mile, that's four grand you owe at the end of the lease.
Enough yet?
I have more.

After considering my options and everything else I think my best option is gonna be to keep it. I love the car and for the price you really can't beat it. NYDeer if you have any question's about the Jetta feel free to PM me. I got mine from Donaldson's in Sayville. IMO no other cars in this price bracket came even close. 2 tone leather seats, heated seats, leather wrapped wheel, nice sporty rims, Apple Car Play, nice little turbo 4 banger. However I definitely recommend the 1.8T Sport version. The lower trims don't come nearly as loaded.

Not suggesting anything, but
Know your rights/Refuse peacefully to consent to a search /Ask if you are free to go or are being detained/Even if you are not doing anything wrong the 4th Amendment protects you against unreasonable searches/Never say anything to law enforcement even if you think it will help you/If questioned you should clearly and unequivocally request that you would like to have an attorney present and defer any questions until then/Never go to prison because you are afraid to go to jail.
