Does anyone have a carfax account and want to run a vin for me?

My son, after totaling out his/my Suburban (yes he is fine but did a number on my truck) is looking at a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Just want to see what Carfax has to say and not looking to spend 40 bucks for one report.

I was at my dealer a few weeks ago to get an ECU flash. The service mgr was bitching about all the Cherokees ('14s and '15 I think) that were in for a recall.

This is a 2012. Nice ride, low mileage (24K), good price.

I did find a site that offered a free carfax one time. No sign up, no strings.. Ran it for my car and it was accurate. Shows how much you're being tracked too.
I am not armed out of fear of who's in front of me.
I am armed out of love of those behind me.

It listed every time I had taken my car to the deal or a chain shop for service (not the local Joe's Garage place) along with what service was performed.

Yep, they do that. You can see if someone does a odometer job on a vehicle or if the dopey tech inputs the wrong mileage and it looks like you screwed with the odometer.

You can loosen the foil hat. It's not always for some nefarious purpose. We used that feature to help get max dollar for my wife's car when we sold it. The buyer was trying to talk cost down by creating some sort of scenario. We showed how meticulous she was in caring for her car and got the price we wanted for it.

do a search for vehicle history reports.... I don't recall offhand the names, but there are other sites that give the same info (which is based on ADP's Autosource reports I think) when I was looking for a van I found them, got the report for $6?

Careful on those Jeeps, my friend. I have one and they are known for electrical problems.
They have faulty TIPM's (totally integrated power module) and mine is no exception. 2011 was the worst but it trickled into 2012s. Part is over $1k and its not covered under warranty. I was also told it has a 3-6 month wait time for availability.

On mine my radio, gps, and back up camera screen keeps rebooting. Occasionally on my 30 minute drive to work it will shut down and reboot about a dozen times.
I only learned of the problem after I had my back up camera replaced on my dime when it would black out a few seconds after I put it in reverse. After I paid for that repair the radio and GPS started to randomly shut down and restart. In hindsight it was probably the TIPM from the beginning.

The TIPM also controls the electronic fuel pump and some people have reported serious issues with the vehicle not starting.

The 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee has 2500 problems & defects reported by Grand Cherokee owners. The worst complaints are electrical, engine, and accessories - interior problems.

Having had one for over 2 years now and seeing similar issues with my father in laws (same model, same year) - I would be hesitant to recommend one.
