    Passed HAM Radio Extra exam

Just came home. One of the most difficult tests I've ever taken. Now I can talk on all frequencies!

Congratulations! I took my Tech test years ago. Never wanted to proceed onward because of the code requirement. Now, I may just do it!

              Congrats! Time for new toys?

I just started back up after a decent hiatus and am studying to upgrade to General for now.

I made it to Tech Plus. I didn't know all the code requirements had been removed. I thought it was just the tech level to get people started. I passed the general exam, but failed the code.

I am with you there. Ham radio quickly gets expensive.

Congrats and welcome to the club. I passed Extra a couple years ago. I found I make more DX contacts in the Extra portions of the bands.

I passed my General exam back when I there was Novice, Tech, General, Advanced and Extra. I didn't even bother trying to pass the 13 WPM code, but my Novice became a Tech, by going to Varick St. in NYC, and taking the General exam. This was before Tech-Plus even existed. After they dropped the code, all I had to do was provide a copy of my Tech License (there was a grace period, not the normal one, but if you had the Tech in a certain year range, which I did) and all I had to do was show up with an old license copy, or a callbook with my old call, take the General Exam (again), and I left with my General ticket. I am now a member of the QCWA (Quarter Century Wireless Association, and I am past the first 25 year tier!) It does get expensive for serious HF gear, but you can pick up a 2m portable for under $50 on Amazon!!! Brand spanking new!

Let me know if you need anything. What I have found is the actual test is easier than a typical practice test pool. You still need to study. ARRL handbook is what I used, plus an iPhone app that generates practice tests.
