    Calling all computer geeks

ok, dug out an old laptop tonight, about 4 years old. Charged it up, turned it on and...I have no friggin idea what the password is.
    any suggestions or tricks??
there is a password hint but I'm completely blank on what it means.

You didn't write down the password in a secret location just in case?
Was the password added towards the end of when you used it last, or was always in it? If added at end, I would say try the system restore to revert the computer back to a time when you had no password on it. And of course, there's always reloading the whole computer with the recovery disks, as long as nothing of value is on it.

Not written down, no. I can't access anything beyond the log in screen to reset or restore. The password hint makes sense (for 4 years ago) I'm just not hitting the right password.

You can access the computer repair functions of Windows, by tapping the F8 key during boot up. Though it still may ask for a password to continue with the system restore. Then there's always a total reload of the computer from the recovery disks.

It's XP, tried the YouTube and I get stopped and told to reinstall something. I don't have anything to reinstall. I'll screw w it tomorrow, maybe download a reboot disk...
thanks for the help guys, gotta go crash.

I seem to recall there is a Linux bootdisk that can mount the windows drive, change/remove the password for you. I did it a couple of years ago.

First google search that came up: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...tem-rescue-cd/
