    Network connection problem

I have 2 network drives connected to my home router.
Both drives are mapped drive connections to my PC.
All of a sudden today when I try to click on one of the mapped drives I get the popup the device is already in use.
I tried disconnecting the mapping then re-mapping it. Still no go.
The second drive I can connect to fine.
I can connect to the first drive's control panel via IP.
    I tried rebooting many times.

But....here's the kicker....this problem only happens when I am going in via wifi. If I use a ethernet cable to my network and turn off wifi then I can connect to both drives w/o problem.

    Very odd in deed.

I did a Net Use and it only shows the expected connections. No duplicate drives.

Haven't made any computer or network setting changes in a long time.

    Any ideas??

Show me your output of net use command. Screen shot preferred.

Drive Y is the one having the problem. It says OK because I'm on ether net now.

        from command prompt
        net use /delete \\Simpleshare\NetFolder
        ipconfig /flushdns
Then try and map while on WiFi.

I would run the net use /delete command for all mapped drives, then recreate them.

Also, avoid using the drive letter z:\ as a mapped drive.

can you ping the name SIMPLESHARE?

Ya see... if it was a Mac all you’d have to do is shut it off and buy a new one.

That seems to be a step in the right directions.
I have it gone from the net use screen but it still shows as a mapped drive in file explorer. I get an error that it can't find the device when I click on it.

I was able to delete the mapping with net use hard connected, I flushed the IP DNS, but when I disconnect and try to remap with net use on wifi I get a 53 error path not found.
Remapping with net use works OK with hard connection but not wifi.

Check the IPv4 settings for the wireless connector and see if the DNS and Netbios are set properly. You can also try and do a net use with the IP address when on Wifi and I bet it works. Error 53 is a name resolution issue.

Which is why I am asking if you can ping the name SIMPLESHARE. If you can't consistently get name resolution to an IP address, my suggestion is to modify your LM HOSTS file and put a static entry. You should be using static IP addresses for network resources.

So what finally fixed the issue?

                              Honestly, I don't know.

I tried the commands suggested above and after a few days it seemed to work wirelessly again.

Networks are funny. Sometimes it seems they take time to "learn" a connection again. Not logical but seems so.

But it works so I'm not questioning it!
