    VPN’s ??

Wife gave me a new laptop. I am light years from being a tech guy and would appreciate some guidance on a VPN to install to protect it (and me). Free is better but I few rounds of .308 a month doesn’t seem unreasonable for some safety.
    Anyone ?

What are you protecting it from with a VPN? I don't trust ANY free VPN, they don't need to know/log all of my traffic.

I use PIA VPN, pay per year and with discount codes, it's less than $50/year

NordVPN, but 20% of the nodes are IP blocked at various websites (including here) and another 20% show up as foreign even though they are supposed to be in the US.
Know your rights/Refuse peacefully to consent to a search /Ask if you are free to go or are being detained/Even if you are not doing anything wrong the 4th Amendment protects you against unreasonable searches/Never say anything to law enforcement even if you think it will help you/If questioned you should clearly and unequivocally request that you would like to have an attorney present and defer any questions until then/Never go to prison because you are afraid to go to jail.

I just ride in on Hillary's. Sometimes the foreign spy traffic slows it down but the network is always open.

I use an Invizbox device. It sits between my cable modem and wireless router. Everything in the house, smart phones, tablets, Roku box, computers, is automatically going through a VPN. I know it's working because when I go to retail websites like Walmart the default location is never near me.

One problem though is that Amazon now detects the VPN and won't stream. I have two networks, one behind the VPN and one open for things like that. It's simple to change the wireless net when I need to.

                    I highly recomend.

I saved a fortune on a Chinese VPN, you get unlimited downloads of movies they made Hollywood change the endings to, they guarantee 100% identity theft and give you free daily access in exchange for making your children build 100 iphones an hour.

communication between you and another host can be encrypted out the wazoo, but if YOU inadvertently execute malicious code while running under the context of local administrative privileges on your computer, you WILL install the malicious code and they MAY get your data!
