    Spring Assist Knives

Are knives that open with a spring assist illegal in NY? For example, a Benchmade 580 barrage: https://www.benchmade.com/580.html

Here's an interesting article (of many) on a recent NY spring-assist knife case.

The only people who want these laws in effect are law enforcement officials who use them to arrest people of color and law-abiding citizens.
One could look at that last sentence and arrive at the implication that "people of color" are not law abiding. Just an observation though I am fairly sure it was not meant it that way.

As for the meat of the subject, NY does it again - passes a law that is quite specific in its definitions and intent about switchblades, then totally ignores the law and convicts someone based upon who knows what other than the whim of the state. My son got it right - get the fuck out of here and move to a freer state!

As of June this year, spring-assisted knives now qualify as "switchblade knives" in the penal code. Stems from People v Berrezueta

They're not an illegal per se item, but you cannot normally carry one. You can own/possess one with a valid NYS fishing, hunting, or trapping license, so buy what you like if you can; but to carry it you have to be actively engaged in said activity. Otherwise it's a class-A mis.

And then there’s the loose definition of “gravity knife” to cover most everything else.

You can thank Republicans like Al Graf for giving Coumo second thought on repealing the gravity knife law.

NY has so much to offer, too bad it sucks so much. Next thing you know all knives will have to have a round end like dinner knives.

That mother fucker was never going to sign that repeal. Fact.

His concerns that the bill would "overly burden" an arresting officer in determining what constitutes a gravity knife was pure sound bite horseshit. An excuse, as they're obviously determining that anyway when making a stop and/or arrest. He only said it because the new bill addressed all his concerns from the first's supposed ambiguity. He was backed into a corner, probably thinking it's passing through the assembly was a fluke.

He isn't anti-gun. he's anti-self defense period. Unless you're part of the state-sanctioned privileged class.

Al Graf didn’t help, with his antics!
