    Motorcycle questions

I am going to be getting my motorcycle license and have a few questions about buying a motorcycle.

    1) How much will a decent starter motorcycle cost me? I don't need anything fast or fancy just something to learn on and drive to work.

    2) Where should I get one? I don't feel comfortable buying one on Craigslist since I am not sure how to check it.

    3) Do places lease motorcycles?

    4) Anyother suggestions or advice?

If you take the classes they use 200s so youd be likely to end up getting a 200 before jumping up in a year or 2.

That said take classes. Investing in the gear and not enjoying the ride and stopping, is nothing compared to investing into a bike youre gonna ding up or be uncomfortable on cause youre trying to figure it out solo or with a buddy.

      1) $2500-$4000
      2) 1st motorcycle Get a DUAL SPORT Thank me later
      3) Craigslist, get a friend who knows to go with you a dealer will make you overpay
      4) Not to my knowledge
      5) Get a enduro 250-650 cc depending on your height (most are low to the ground.) Dont get something super nice remember you are a beginner shit happens. DO NOT get a crotch rocket for your first bike If the speed doesnt kill you, or the people that turn left in front of motorcycles around here, The poor road conditions will add to that the nice tickets you can get around here. Ive been on motorcycles since I was 5 years old My first one was given to me at 3 and Im still at it, be extra observant, dont try to read what drivers are going to do, always assume they will do something dumb. If you can, Maybe a school is a good idea? I mean I was just put on the bike by my dad shown how to make it go forward which ended up in a crash

Thanks. Craigslist has next to nothing on it. Is there a local motorcycle forum or some place people list used motorcycles.

I'm on here more often than I should be.
Find new and used motorcycles for sale by owner or dealer. Buy or sell Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha or Honda motorcycles.

My son has a 2013 Kawasaki dual sport 250cc that he has out grown since getting a Harley. Nice shape with some upgrades. Let me know if you are interested.

Best Starter Bike is a HONDA REBEL. Stay on her until your comfortable going out day and night. Up and down main street and southern state.
Next up a HARLEY Sporty 1200 custom. Heaver, faster, handles like a rice rocket.. But be warned you are invisible. Every vehicle you see does not see you. Take a MC class. Practice, practice in a parking lot.
Your big bike will choose you, you will see her at a Metric dealer, or You will Will sit on a HARLEY and know you are hers. Two things . ONE do NOT use the front brake when the bars are turned. EVER/NEVER
Two go slow, be careful , never ever gamble that they see you. How do I know? I wear the Broken Wings. Now I ride a 2007 FXDWG The best Bike Harley every Made. Now before others say there are other faster Bikes.
Somewhere real close to me that I have been on, is The Fastest production bike. V-ROD DESTROYER. Scary and stupid fast.

50 replies will get 50 answers. here's mine. Don't get a small bike. Not for the first bike anyway, you will not enjoy it after the thrill wears off and it will end up sitting in the garage. Get a mid size bike, 500cc or larger. 650 is nothing really unless you are talking a crotch rocket which i totally advise against getting. ever.
                        dont get a harley.
dont drink and ride. ever. at all.
try to ride with others and ride in the middle or back of the group.
dont drink and ride. at all. ever.
get a midsize cruiser and ride the crap out of it (after you get your license.)
ride safe and when you are about 45, ride cross country. more than once if possible.
                        ride safe. always.
dress for a crash, not a faux biker fashion show.
you dont want to be a biker, you want to be a rider.

getting newer, not the scratch from going down, this is why you want a plastic bike that can take a beating

I agree with all you said except the bike size, Always start small, every bike has its use, For me, being 230 lbs and my experience level my min is 500cc but I will ride a 200 and have just as much fun in the right place
