6 year old Yellow Labrador retriever needs a good home

A very good friend has a yellow lab that he needs to find him a new home.
    His name is Dexter.
He's pure bred, 6 years old and a good dog. He got him as a puppy.
The problem with the dog is it doesn't get along with his 2 year old daughter.
He was fine with his son, who is now 8 .
I think it's because of his wife being a little high strung and probably kept the dog away from the baby so to the dog it's not part of the pack. but it's not my call.
It growled at his daughter twice and tried to nip her hand once.
He wants to find it a good home without young kids.
He's heartborken but he's got to do what he thinks is right.
    Dog lives in West Islip.

if anyone is interested let me know and I'll get you two introduced.

In the mean time tell him to give the dog a hit of Benedryl twice a day.

He's is doing the right thing.

Labs are shedding machines, not as bad as a Shepherd, but close behind. I had a couple growing up. If you take the time to brush them regularly outside and "de-thatch" the coat it is not as bad.

                Very true.
                but labs are awesome.
i had 2 labs and now have a labradoodle
the doodle sheds more than 3 labs combined!

Just a side note... Lab hair is wiry in comparison to say Golden Retriever hair which is more fluffy. We have tumbleweeds rolling around the house from our Golden!

Best of luck finding a nice home for Dexter!

Labs shed heavy 2x a year. Each shed cycle last 6 months.

If you are unable to find a good home for Dexter, consider contacting the New York State Retriever Rescue (http://nysrr.com/index.html)... based here on Long Island. They take all retrievers, but primarily place Labradors. My wife and I volunteer for Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue (LIGRR - where we rescued our Golden) and we know some good folks that volunteer for them.

Unless you can place Dexter in a home of a person you know and trust, you will not find a better way to place him. We went through a thorough "vetting" with LIGRR when we adopted Bella (home visit with multiple interviews, etc.)... I'm sure they do the same as they are passionate about these dogs.

My wife and I plan on adopting/rescuing another dog in the future, but unfortunately we can't right now... probably a male, either another Golden or a Lab... our 4-year old Golden, Bella, needs a buddy (and the cats will thank us too!).

The vetting seems the same for a dog as adopting a child!
I tried to "rescue" ( or as Bill Burr would say, " get a free dog) a lab once and was turned down because my yard isn't fenced.
I said, I work from home. The dog won't be outside alone. Didn't matter.
I had another friend that was married. He worked nights and his wife worked days. Yet they were turned down because they both worked. I guess unemployeed people with a fence are preferred.
Of course this was years ago and we may have simply had stupid people but it was pretty ridiculous

Yeah, the rescues can be pretty picky, but the dogs will find good homes (they are often fostered until adopted). Don't laugh, the term is a "forever" home!

Even though these dogs are rescues, they are certainly not free... probably $400+ since the rescues desperately need funds to cover veterinary bills, temporary boarding in some cases, general cost of operating the rescues, etc. I can tell you with certainty that these people do this because of their passion for dogs since they/we do not get paid a penny.
