Entry level gun safe

I own two guns at the moment, but I'm also building an AR. My HD sig is in a FAS1 safe and I have a long gun. I need to start looking into a safe.

What are some decent entry level safes? How large should I be looking for for a first safe? Obviously I will add to my collection, but I can't break the bank here. What brands should I be looking at? I know Liberty, Fort Knox and Browning. Is there anything is should stay away from?

I don't have a exact budget in mind but probably less than $1,000.

I can't recommend a particular brand but I will say this: buy the biggest one that you can afford.

look, anything you buy will only slow adetermined bad guy down, but you can do a lot to help yourself here.

1. where will this thing be going? put it someplace that will make it hard for the bad guy to find, hard to get a pry bar into it anywhere.
2. bolt it down. don't let the bad guy tip it over

once you figure that out...figure out the biggest safe you can afford and get into that spot and secure. i was part of the winchester group buy on LIF and i'm very happy with the safe. i added LED lighting on a battery pack to make seeing things easier.

At that price point you have some decent options. You may be tempted to go with one of the lighter, inexpensive cabinet type things offered at box stores, do yourself the favor of visiting your LGS (Camp Site has always been super competitive on quality, name brand safes) and see what your options are. Vick gave some excellent advice, I'd add that while you have 2 guns now, that will change. Gun safes tend to fill up surprisingly fast and the capacity on the sticker is usually about double the actual number of guns you'll get into it.
Buy once, cry once. Your not safeguarding the Doritos and beer, get the right safe for your needs.

Check out eBay for the used safes. Keep in mind possible shipping costs. But a used big ol safe gets you more for your money than a shiny new light gauge locker.

Superior makes a nice small safe for a few guns that is around 900

Winchester Ranger - you get the ranger 31 for a couple hundo more and it comes with a door organizer, etc. Very well made safe for the money. Go see Paul at Campsite and he will take good care of you. If you have a friend with a pick up or just rent one from HD, 2-3 guys can easily move it, especially if you're going down stairs and not up. Believe it weighs around 700LBS. Easy to take the door off which saves a ton of weight while moving.
