Shooting a pistol with no license

I was looking through the penal and found sone intrest stuff.

First is that you can shoot a pistol while waiting for your license. 7-b and 400.00.

Second one I am a little unsure of. 7-a says that you can shoot a pistol permit holders pistol at an approved range.

Interesting but I do know that at Mitchell Field trying that will get you tossed and probably worse depending on who is watching that day.

    Good stuff though.

I was reading the Exemptions to section 245 in the NYS PL last night while researching a post for another thread, about the cop and the AR, and I noticed the same thing. Mitchell field doesn't necessarily fit those range requirements, depending on what organizations are there that day, and certainly not just private citizen users by themselves.

Here is an easier to use section 265

Firearms and Other Dangerous Weapons. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree

        and here is section 400

Any owner in possession of a firearm who suffers the loss or theft shall within twenty-four hours report the loss...

In my opinion, not worth taking the chance. I think if you get caught and even if the penal code states you can, you would probably have a very hard time getting a pistol license in the future.

Don't use ypdcrime, they are out of date. http://public.leginfo.state.ny.us/lawssrch.cgi?NVLWO: is the NYS web site

Yes, you can, but you need to find a range that will allow it and you, the license holder / instructor need to vouch for that person, etc etc.
Take a young person shooting.... Take 2 or more if you can...

Not drawing attention to any one place, but every shooter knows what range you can get away with that kind of stuff, and what ranges you can't. Don't mess around at a government owned range like Mitchell field. Other places, you can probably go select fire, and nobody even blinks an eye.

The folks at MF are well aware of the law. The have been trying to change the range rule, but are dealing with County government who have not exactly placed it too high on the priority list.

Do what they do in NYC, Chicago, Detroit, LA ect. Wait until night, find a housing project playground, turn the pistol sideways and start pulling the trigger

IMO that may be the State penal law, but the county that governs the pistol permit may have a different rules and regulations.

Take a 2 hour drive to America and you can shoot pistols all day long with no worries.

All of these ranges rent pistols:
                      Heritage Guild in Easton, PA
                      Sunset Hill in Henryville, Pa
Pocono Pistol Club in East Stroudsburg, PA

                        The rules are simple:

                        - if between 18-21, legal to shoot a pistol that is licensed to someone else in NYS (licensee must be present)
                        - if you are over 21 and applied for a license, also legal to shoot another's licensed pistol with them present but only in the county where you have applied (crazy, right?)
                        - if over 21, and neither of the above apply and you are not a PO or within one of the other verylimited exceptions -- drive to PA. I recommend Classic Pistol in Southampton PA.
Know your rights/Refuse peacefully to consent to a search /Ask if you are free to go or are being detained/Even if you are not doing anything wrong the 4th Amendment protects you against unreasonable searches/Never say anything to law enforcement even if you think it will help you/If questioned you should clearly and unequivocally request that you would like to have an attorney present and defer any questions until then/Never go to prison because you are afraid to go to jail.

or go to the roof landing and shoot into the door leading out to the roof.
