  • Avoid Kellystone Park in Afton, NY

Had the most miserable experience there Memorial Day weekend.

Apparently their electrical service is woefully inadequate for the number of campsites that they have. We were unable to use our air conditioner from 8am to about 8pm, which wouldn't have been a big deal if not for our bulldog.

And no electricity means that the water pumps don't work, so no showers either. Not that their facilities were convenient or clean enough for me to consider using. There's two public shitters for the entire campground.

We had a decent time regardless, but that had less to do with the campground and more about the people that I camp with. It could have been so much better had we gotten what we paid for.

Long story short: Avoid Kellystone like the plague.

Drama free camping zone where people talk about their good times, help each other, and don't complain.

Go for it. That place sucked so hard that I'd hate to see others have such a shitty experience.

The polaris generators are almost as good as a honda and almost 1/2 the price, sounds like it may be a necessity when camping in anything other than a tent

We shouldn't have to bring a generator when electric hookup is, allegedly, included in the rate. Although from now on we will be bringing a generator with us.

No you shouldnt, and they should refund a portion of your rate. One thing I have learned is to never expect anything to go as planned

We took the kids camping the weekend before Memorial Day, Big Meadows NP on Skyline Drive. Not the greatest campground, but the area is beautiful. Saw bears twice.
