Watch out for the fish splashing - attracts the Grizzlies!
Maybe in some of the more populated areas. Where we go is fairly remote & the bears want nothing to do with humans. We're lucky if we see 1 or 2 during a week. We see plenty of tracks. It's the smaller tracks that keep me on guard. I always whistle or talk loudly when walking about. I have a valid pistol license for AK but the camp we go to doesn't allow us to carry. Probably some insurance reasoning.

I've been to Katmai, bears can be pretty thick in areas - but one of the reasons we were there was to see them. One angler had one on the line and a decent size bear started towards him through the high grass. We were up high and were watching the bear when we saw his ears perk up, stand on his hinds, then went towards the fly fisherman. We were trying to warn the guy but he was too far away. When the bear came through the grass, the guy just cut the line and slowly walked away - like it happens all the time.....
