    Spring Turkey

Who is getting geared up for spring Turkey season? I'm looking at properties on the computer while working, and updating my Google maps for parking locations to the DEC properties.

I’m going to try to get out this year, never been out in the spring but I could use some time in the woods. Pretty low odds I’ll see any turkeys LOL, but it’s good to enjoy the quiet.

NYS turkey in the spring is the entire month of May.

Bag limit is two gobblers. No hens.

The only spring turkey hunting on LI is the youth hunt in April.

NYS has long seasons and liberal bag limits.

Taking a mature gobbler in the spring is a very rewarding hunt.

I highly recommend trying your hand at turkey hunting.

The only limitations is no shot size larger than #2 and no shot size smaller than #8. No gauge restrictions.

Hunting is from 1/2 hour before sunrise until 12 noon.

Do not stalk. You might be stalking another hunter. Calling the bird to you is the game. When a gobbler calls he is telling the hen where he is. Getting him to come to you is counterintuitive and the reward.

Turkey hunting is a lot like fly fishing. It’s hard and there are lots of components.

              Enjoy, Mike.

Nothing is more frustrating than leaving the place you were hunting and seeing legal game all over a sod field on your drive home.

I could hit one almost every day with my work truck and my pickup! Dumb critters, just walk right out into the road like they are invincible.

Fuckers! I've seen quite a few all over Suffolk county last year walking around showing off!

State land is a PITA for Toms, hit Stewart Airport a few times, had some luck, but you get people wandering through out of boredom and ignorance, been shot at too, fun times.

I hunt DEP land upstate and I don’t see anyone else and my group shot two good gobblers last year on public land.
