Citizens with AR-15s Stand Guard Outside Texas Police Departments

Citizens with AR-15s Stand Guard Outside Texas Police Departments

According to the Montgomery County Police Reporter, James Evans, Roger Tarrant, and Paul Wilson went to the Patton Village Police Department with “their AR-15s in hand” and stood guard. They also stood outside the City of Splendora Police Department (SPD), where passing drivers “honked their horns in approval, while others stopped for photos, selfies, and to personally thank them for what they were doing.”

In fact, the men garnered so much support in the form of food and bottled water that they began stacking the food on the hoods of their pickup trucks so well-wishers could see they already had more than they could handle.

Traffic outside SPD became so bad that the department used a Facebook post to urge drivers to keep moving. The post said:
Citizens of the City of Splendora, SPD is aware of the individuals in the front of city hall today. A SPD officer along with outside law enforcement agency officers have already made contact with them. They were not viewed commiting [sic] any criminal offenses. They were very cooperative and understanding when discussed of firearms safety. They showed no danger to any persons when we made contact with them. They are showing support for local law enforcement agencies which is appreciated in this hard time for the State of Texas and the country is going through. For the safety of drivers on roadway, we ask citizens driving by taking pictures to not stop in roadway due to it can cause a traffic hazard or wreck. Thank you to our great city and east Montgomery county for the positive support.
Evans said he just “wanted to show police that civilians stood by them, that they aren’t alone.” He added, “I am tired of seeing officers slain for doing their job.”

Two days after the ambush on Dallas police officers, citizens armed with AR-15s stood guard outside various police departments in Texas.

Well done to those men. If only there was an armed citizen able to stop the piece of shit in dallas before he murdered 5 officers.

What do you think would happen, same guys, same action, but let's add some "come and take it" t-shirts to the mix, decided to do this in either CA or NY? Maybe right in Albany in front of Andy's door?

Give a man fire, and he stays warm for one night. Set a man on fire, and he stays warm for the rest of his life.

makes me wonder what would happen if citizens did that here. Maybe cops would be very conflicted about arresting or ignoring out of appreciation

I get what they are trying to do, I applaud them for it. This is a disaster waiting to happen though. Some asshole is going to throw a shot or a rock or a dirty diaper or something at one of these guys and entice them into a reaction. They are not cross trained with the cops and their judgement/responses will be very different than LE when the stuff hits the fan.
At some point, and it will only take one, one of their actions is going to become the new rallying cry for the animals.
Strategically it is not a good plan for these guys. OpSec for the LE is challenged and it is too, too easy for an interloper to stand in as one of the well intended good guys and start a shit show.

Push comes to shove - arrest!
I am not armed out of fear of who's in front of me.
I am armed out of love of those behind me.

There were reports of as high as 20 open carry activists at the event in Dallas. Including Mark Hughes, the man arrested as a person of interest. Not to mention the hundred armed cops.

Yeah, but they weren't in the parking complex that the initial shots were fired from (killed 4 officers and injured 6). Last officer was shot in the back and killed by the pillar (he was alone and isolated unfortunately).

You're right, became a high level person of interest and was interrogated. I mispoke.
