GREAT BEND, Kan. (KAKE) -
Great Bend police say burglary suspect was shot while wrestling with an elderly homeowner last week.
Officers were called around 10 p.m. Friday to the report of a person with a gunshot wound at a home in the 200 block of Baker Street. Chief of Police Clifton Couch said officers found a 39-year-old man had been shot.
A 65-year-old man had been staying at the home with an elderly man who lives there, Chief Couch said. The 65-year-old claimed he heard a noise outside and walked around the house to investigate.
When he went back inside, he allegedly saw the suspect wrestling with the elderly homeowner. The 65-year-old then shot the suspect.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital and then to a hospital in Wichita. He was listed in serious but stable condition.
