    Convenience store shooting

I believe this incident was posted on the forum some time ago. I'm not sure if the surveillance video footage was posted. It was interesting to see the actual events unfold, the good and the bad. I suggest watching it at first with the volume turned off to avoid the narration.

Problem is, if you come to blows with this guy and he knocks you out, now he's got your gun.

Personally , I don't see myself ever open carrying even if I were able to.. but if you can do it successfully, more power to you just not for me. I'm thinking he drew because he recognized that his ability to retain control of his firearm might soon become a huge issue if it came to blows as it looked like it was heading in that direction.

Time to think about carrying pepper spray in the weak hand pocket. Zimmerman could possibly have saved himself a lot of hassle had he been so equipped.

It's not for me either. In my opinion it makes you a target if someones looking to cause an incident. You lose the element of surprise if you're open carrying as well. You can potentially extricate yourself if a problem is brewing and later draw your concealed weapon as you're not seen as the primary threat. And I also agree that it looks like he drew and fired because retention may have become a problem. No room, guy is still advancing despite your warnings, etc.

I've seen 3-4 people open carrying in other states and every time my first though was "I cuold take that." And it wasn't from me looking at it from an anti open carry opinion, it was just that it was so obvious... almost inviting. One time was in a VERY crowded store, I was thinking you wouldn't even need to be a good pickpocket to get that, just bump and go. That time and two others my thought was "I could take that and just run away" (because none of those people were in any physical condition to run after me, and I'm far from in shape)

He failed when he followed the guy out. Looks like he was trying to get a plate number. But for what? Tossing a bag of chips? The guy left, let him go.

To me it looks like he carries a gun because he doesn't know how to fight. He's lucky he lives in a free state and the assailant was not of Afro-American dissent or he would be facing jail time.

I pretty much agree with the critique in the video. Audio would have been nice but without knowing anything more my vote would have been "not my fight", no use of force or weapons (bag of Doritos?) and cops had been called. Unless the guy threatened to disarm him and made a move toward doing that or otherwise threatened harm, instructor guy never should have cleared leather.
Shooter was lucky his shot wasn't through and through, Mr. Bodega owner man would have caught the round...bad ending, worse.
