I'm not too savvy on how to paste an entire article here and highlight a portion that smacked me in the face as to how elitist and totalitarianistic certain representatives (most with a D following their name, but not all) have become. Here's a link to the article.
Now pay close attention to this portion of the article where the California senator basically says, do not put this to a vote of the people because our long hard fought agenda might not pass. Lets do it through the legislature where the folks won't have a say and will have no choice but to bend to our will.
"I think it's too risky to put a lot of hard work, decades of hard work, before the voters of California. We don't know if it passes or not," de Leon said. "But if we can get it done in the legislative body, the question is, why not do it?"
I think this mindset is much more common than one may think.
