    Two Autonomous Regions

The State of New York really should be two separate states but two autonomous regions should be easier to achieve. NYS contains a tremendously diverse population and is unique in its dichotomy. The overwhelming majority of the state consists of small to medium sized communities set in a rural and suburban climate; generally conservative values blend with moderate liberal ideals to create a unique political platform. Meanwhile, the downstate counties that make up New York City are significantly more liberal leaning in their values and are world famous for the size and power of the most significant city in the world. It is equally unfair to both upstate and downstate residents to share a representative government; the vast differences in lifestyle and aspirations demonstrate that both downstate and upstate should have their own autonomous governments so as to more effectively serve their constituents.

Our Secession plan calls for establishing a more representative form of government than the strange form of democracy NYS currently has which allows downstate to rule upstate which destroys good paying jobs upstate , while upstate can occasionally block things downstate wishes to enact. We would form Two Autonomous Regions the New Amsterdam Region (upstate) and the New York Region (downstate) alongside a token state government to comply with the US Constitution. The token NYS government that remains would have about the same power as the Queen of England! Because we are forming regions not a new state or moving counties between states; Congress can be legally bypassed. Since the NYS Legislature has failed to act, this plan also has the option to bypass the NYS Legislature; because every twenty years the people of NYS get to vote on whether to hold a NY State Constitutional Convention. If we vote YES on the NYS Convention, Delegates are elected for the Convention the following November. The Convention can then submit an amendment to divide NY State into regions with token state government directly to the voters. The next time the Convention vote will be held is Nov 2017. Our autonomous regions method is more likely to succeed!

Did you forget the geography of where we live?

By a simple accident of geography we would get royally screwed because we would be attached to NY region.

There are so many liberals on the island who work in NYC who would vote to be attached to the NY region we would be bound by NYC laws, and ruled by NYC elites.

          No thanks!

one of the best ways to deal with big government is decentralization. Right now NY metro controls all of NY state and is how Coumo got reelected

when Thomas Jefferson saw the constitution fail during his lifetime, he proposed for the United States to decentralize even more

Just about every county passed resolutions against the safe act. If NY was divided, the safe act would be far less reaching

Documenting County and Town resolutions on the NY SAFE act. Never before have so many local governments publicly united in opposition to a state law, passing resolutions to reject the so called SAFE Act.

This may be good for Upstate but it would just make Nassau and Suffolk the 6th and 7th Boros essentially killing us

Is is that an excuse not to restore Liberty?

just think of the enormous flight of business that would move to freer NY...upstate could potentially be the next Texas with its booming economy and make moving off Long Island that much easier

Any statement that starts off as factually suspect as this one is probably just crazy talk. What makes New York different (unique) from Illinios for example? Chicago politics play havoc in that state.
Take Maryland, the richest state in America per capita, yet Baltimore makes Beruit look peaceful. Take Amtrack to D.C and look at the destruction in Baltimore, it's like East New York but twenty times as long.
You can bet the Maryland gentry are not happy with Balitimore pulling their agenda downward.

This guy is spouting off about how he feels, I get it, but it's just not factual to say that the Urban vs. Suburban plight of many states is unique to New York or is likely to solve anything by dividing the regions.

BTW, If NYC became it's own political subsection and didn't have to kneel to the rest of the state, you can bet the NYC income tax for commuters would increase drastically.
Death by a thousand cuts to anyone making money off of NYC's economic engine.

The fact is downstate pays for upstate.
so they may get screwed by the liberal down staters regarding their freedoms but they are very happy with all the downstate money sent upstate .
                          So it will never happen

NYC is basically it's own autonomous region already. They have numerous provisions allowing them to operate under their own laws that are different from the rest of the state. The problem is that they are able to elect liberal politicians to the state government that controls the entire region. It's not about urban vs. rural/suburban. It's strictly about population density. Put enough people in one region, they get to elect more representatives. In NYC's case, liberal representatives. Our problem is not about crime or poverty so much as politics. The cities left wing stance does not represent the rest of the state, but hey have most of the people so they get most of the say. They need to restructure the representation. But with the Libs in charge, that will never happen.
