The people who are more independent because they have jobs and money are leaving. What remains will be these train station favelas who vote for a living. It doesn't make mathematic sense to you and me, but to a socialist, it's all going according to plan.

Think of NYC before skyscrapers. This is the next step for high density population.

"Long Island is a densely populated island in the southeastern region of the U.S. state of New York, part of the New York metropolitan area. With over 8 million people, Long Island is the most populous island in the United States and the 18th-most populous in the world."

And it's cheaper to build up than it is to go out. Typically.

Less real estate needed, providing you aren't restricted by height or density, which is why NYS wants to do as they please. Town of Islip changed building codes AFTER I built my 2 story barn roof garage, meaning any new construction of that type couldn't happen, and on the approved plans it was marked that the 2nd floor was NOT to be finished (they were afraid I'd make it into an apartment, but I just needed a place for camping gear and other such nonsense). With THIS, NYS can build a Fifth Element style mini city and leave the towns scrambling to service it

I grew up in Syosset 1968-1995. I can't wait to hear the yenta outrage when they want to put apartment buildings in the town near the railroad station. LMFAO! It will be NIMBY voices breaking the speed of sound.
