A man accidentally shot himself at a Logan Gun Range

    Montana

I'm always nervous when someone near me at the range is practicing fast draw.

Patrol Captain Dan McDonough reports that the man was doing draw excercises with a 9mm pistol handgun, when it accidentally discharged and he shot himself in the leg. This was an accidental shot, and his condition is still unknown.

No one else was injured, and the man was driven by a witness to the Eastbound Jackrabbit exit, where they met with a Central Valley Fire District Ambulance.

Captain McDonough reminds everyone to treat all weapons as if they're loaded.

At approximately 2:30 today, a call of an 'accidental discharge' at the gun-range came in to Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, Central Valley Fire District, and AMR. Jake Zlomie of Central Valley Fire District says that they transported one person with an accidental discharge wound at approximatley 2:45pm to Bozeman health deaconess regional medical center.

Patrol Captain Dan McDonough of Gallatin County Sheriff's Office says that further information regarding the investigation will be released soon, but it is an open investigation and there are no charges at this time.

This is a developing story, and we have some calls out and will update you as we learn more.

Is there such a thing as a practice round with onboard electronics that lets you know you fucked up without the risk of shooting yourself?
I guess a blank/ starter pistol type round would work too.

That does a lot more than I was thinking. I just meant a simple... and cheaper noise maker to signal your trigger mistake.

Practice draw with snap caps until you know how, and then some.

Snap caps are safe but don't give you much feedback.

I bought an airsoft gun. A 1911 since I'm a 1911 guy. I draw and shoot in my garage. Airsoft pistols are available in a whole lot of models.
            Have a nice day.

Yeah, I saw blank firing only pistols. I want to use my actual pistols to practice but with some sort of safe round that lets you know if you screw up.

i also have a airsoft 1911 thats the same weight , when charged with green gas the slide goes back and forth .. no chance of putting hole in leg .
you build mental memory of how to do this with out loaded projectiles.
then at the range do it a few times with unloaded gun and then load up and go slow
slow is fast and reaffirms the work you did before
i used to do sub second draw and hits ----- should start practicing again

There are rounds made specifically for cowboy action quick draw competitions. I believe they launch a wax plug, which strikes a target, recording the draw time. I don’t know if they are available in calibers other than popular cowboy action.

It's safer than a real round, but any blank can still severely injure you at such short distances from the muzzle.

              Clearly he needs more practice.

When I lived in America I practiced unloaded.

He should have gotten closer to the target, as he yelled " are you talkin to me?".
