      Unscheduled Indoor Range Closure

      To our valued membership,

We regret to inform you that we are forced to close the Indoor Range until further notice.

We have experienced a failure with our automated lead removal mechanism, causing a buildup of lead and shrapnel. below the decelerator behind the backstop. We have initiated a plan for the repairs and hope to have the Indoor range as soon as possible.

We will send out an update once we have completed the repairs.

Freeport Revolver and Rifle apologizes for the inconvenience and last-minute notice.

      Thank you,

      FRRA

Any idea if this affects the Junior's club on Sunday? They're shooting BB indoors and the BBs are stopped before going downrange.

I'm curious, what do you mean the BBs are stopped before going downrange? Do they use some sort of catcher midrange?

Yes, they don't want to trap BBs or get ricochets, so they hang rubber pads directly behind the targets (set back at only 5M) that the BBs hit and drop. At the end of the day, someone walks around down-range with a magnet to clean up.

Thanks. I never would have thought of ricochets of that they would be a problem in the traps but it makes sense.

              I prefer shooting outdoors
              Daylight only allowed of course.

Great that they notified members instead of letting them go there and find out.

Well I'll probably end up at Mitchell Field either Monday or Tuesday. Haven't been there in years. Hopefully it's still up and running ;-)

in my 5(?) years being a member at freeport, I think I've only shot inside maybe twice, and that's because I showed up to use the outdoor range and it was closed for whatever reason without being on the calendar.

Last Monday, I went to Mitchell Field for the first time in years. I had to re-up my Nassau County leisure pass ($30 for life) and it cost $4 to shoot. Not a bad deal. Just sayin.

Never knew they offered a "life" leisure pass. Something new?

I think you have to be old like me. All I have to do is re-verify my residence every 3 years.
