    Private range options

Looking to join a private club. I don't have a ton of disposable income so what are my options? I shoot pistol and rifle. Would like to be able to shoot prone, sitting and standing in addtion to bench shooting. Steel targets would be a big plus especially for pistol. I would like to be able to bring the wife and or kids too.

A while back I tried to join LIPSA and was frustrated by the process. At the time I was shooting one or two matches there per month. I helped break down at the end of every match and schmoozed as much as possible only to have my applcation mailed back saying there were no new members. After hearing that and running into new members at matches I just stopped bothering. I haven't even shot a match there in at least 3 or 4 years due to the bad taste.

I have heard that the there are at least two other private clubs from Roslyn and Bethpage with decent facilities in Suffolk. I would love to hear experiences and insights into the membership process.

    Thanks.

Not to steal the OP's thunder but i'm in a similar boat. I shoot Medford all the time and frankly would like a back-up place to shoot to get some fresh air.
I joined the VOA club but that place is always closed!
Joining Roslyn is a joke at this point, the waiting list is your entire middle age. lol. Oh, you can pay $2000 per year to wait on their list which is nice of them. lol
BH is fine but shooting pistol is way too time consuming waiting for cease fires...
I got the cold shoulder from LIPSA as well....

Dont worry, just wait 3-5 years and DSI will handle all your 10 yard pistol and rifle needs.

I'm in same situation. Mitchell field needs a serious makeover and plus it's useless for rifles (above a .22 anyway).

The better clubs are limited membership - so you have to wait.... I wanted to join Peconic years ago, but was told it was a 20 year list at that point, AND it was epxensive... AND it's a long drive... stopped me from even putting my name on the list. (and recently read you can buy your way to the top of the list... which just made it seem like a snobbish club...)

LIPSA afaik is a limited number of members, there's only a few spots that open up - when someone passes away, or is kicked out for breaking the rules. I've never heard of them having a 'buy-up' option....

For me most of my shooting is at matches anyway, so it doesn't benefit me enough to join... Freeport meets most of my shooting needs and is closer to me, so that's where I joined. (and I still don't use it enough to really be worth it other than being 24/7)

How does one buy into peconic? This is of interest to me
Know your rights/Refuse peacefully to consent to a search /Ask if you are free to go or are being detained/Even if you are not doing anything wrong the 4th Amendment protects you against unreasonable searches/Never say anything to law enforcement even if you think it will help you/If questioned you should clearly and unequivocally request that you would like to have an attorney present and defer any questions until then/Never go to prison because you are afraid to go to jail.

They don't buy their way to the top. You can pay to be a "yellow button". It means, you are on the list, but you can use the facilities during the years long wait. You're not a actual member and it costs a fair bit more than then the normal dues. Being a yellow button does not get your membership through any quicker though. I looked into it a while back. IIRC it was around $2500/year. Once you get called to membership you pay normal dues.

OP: I'm in the same boat. I have been trying to get info about Mattituck gun club. I sent a couple of emails but heard nothing back. They have pistol, rifle, trap and archery. I'll post it if I find out any details. Hopefully someone here can chime in with some knowledge about joining there.

Thanks for the information about the VOA club, I was looking into joining that but if its always closed there is no point. I'd love to join Freeport but its just to far from my house to go out there. Would love to go to LIPSA but again seems that I won't ever make it out there. Just Brookhaven and Freeport and LIPSA for matches.
