    AR complete upper options

Just finished my first lower build for a featureless AR.

Anderson Lower, PSA LPK, spur, and a fixed stock.

What options do I have for complete uppers now? PSA has a few options but I believe they all have "evil attachments" on the barrel.

I know DSI sells lowers without anything on the barrel but are there any other options?

May be able to call palmetto and confirm that the muzzle brake / flash suppressor isn't welded on.. Have it shipped to your house and put on a thread protector and grind off the bayo lug

Check out "Legal Transfers" onARFCOM , they are a Stag dealer and Stag may have a NY legal upper. I just checked the Stag site and they have a NY option if you look at the muzzle device listing.

DPMS had some great NY compliant uppers. But they were never in stock anywhere. Some places like Midway or Cheaper than Dirt would have "back order ok" but never knew how long you might be waiting. I spoke to DPMS and they were great, but they told me they only tooled up for the NY compliant stuff infrequently, and when they did, they had so many back orders, they were pretty much gone before the run. Nice people. They wouldn't even take my money to hold one on a future run. Last I looked at DPMS, they removed NY compliant uppers, and only had some NY compliant complete builds. Don't know why, but not the first manufacture that stopped selling NY uppers.

You mean upper? There are tons of options out there. I hate saying this but google bull barrel upper or featureless upper for sale.

DET has 2 uppers from Rguns. DET likes them. Rguns got overwhelmed after the doushe shot up the elementary school. There are a few complaints about turn around time right after the shooting. They are not the only place that got overwhelmed and had trouble filling orders. It was a tough time for all. They are back on track and have great service.

There are several options to buy a complete "featureless" upper in NY.

                  1. Bull Barrel complete upper- the big retailers such as Midway and Brownells often has sales on items like DPMS bull barrel uppers. The stainless steel ones are particularly nice.

                  2. Custom Made - JSE Surplus (and others including a local 3 letter word) is another source I like as they make built-to-order uppers. You can have a non threaded barrel w/ bay lug removed. Their lead time is a reasonable couple of weeks (can vary) and they have many configs in stock.

                  3. Compliance work. You can legally order any upper to your home. PSA has many deals, as do others. Then do the compliance work yourself or locally. A dremel neatly takes off the bayo lug in minutes (then a little cold blue to make it look good). Some local shops will pin and weld the barrel nut protector on a threaded barrel. Prices vary, but due to the savings and wide offerings of threaded barrel uppers online this may be a cost effective solution in the long run. Or ship it ADCO for compliance work.

A stainless steel super bull barrel is a good featureless option for a bench gun or match shooter.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Will check with PSA first to determine if their muzzle brakes are removable and then go for the pin/welding of the thread protector. They have some great deals on complete uppers now.

Will also check out the other vendors that already build compliant uppers to see what their costs are. This is my first AR build and I do not really know what I want in an upper yet so will be going the cheap route.

Oops yes I meant upper. And will look at bull barrel uppers too.

What I meant to say was "reasonably priced," as I don't scour the Internet daily for something, unless I am about to buy it. I won't mention names, but some of the better known manfacturers are selling featureless uppers for the price of a complete build. Personally, I wouldn't support someone taking advantage of our situation. This does not apply to "custom builds," as now you are adding labor, and customization, and you get what you pay for. If you want a custom build, it should cost more. But I have seen many of the manufacturers that had NY uppers stop selling them, and are only selling complete builds.

I'm thinking about this one from PSA:

Just need to check with them whether or not the muzzle device is removable.
