What stock do you have. Carbine or rifle? If rifle the use a rifle buffer and spring. If carbine then regular carbine weight buffer and spring. I have a mid gas with a rifle length stock it it runs great.
I have a 14.5" with mid length system and wound up having issues. Did the spikes heavy buffer and it helped but wound up doing a seekins adjustable gas block. I love being able to fine tune the rifle now.
1:7 twist is a little fast for 55grain. There are charts that show the correct ranges. It might not affect the gas system but the bullets may get unstable especially on longer shots.
I was told to get the rifle to eject at about the 4:00 position. The amount of gas also depends on how much barrel there is after the gas port. Long barrel and short gas system gives a lot of gas. If the barrel is only a few inches longer than the gas port it may not provide enough gas to operate correctly. Too little gas can only be fixed by lighter buffer or spring or opening the gas port (by a pro).
Give peace a chance, I'll cover you in case that doesn't work out.
